Jim Harbaugh Thread - HC Chargers

I sure hope we keep him, Harbs won the Pioneer League TWICE IN THREE YEARS he knows what he's doing

Harbaugh seems to have run out of f*cks to give at this point.

It almost looks like he's trying to get fired.

Is the WZ seriously this dumb? You want to fire Harbaugh? Harbaugh is the best thing that happened to this team in 10 years.

No matter what, I want the entire defensive staff retained. I want Jim Harbaugh and Tom Rathman retained as well. But we need to bring in a new OC, line coach, and WR coach first and foremost. But who is available? Rod Chudzinksi? Pat Shurmur? I'd prefer an experienced guy at OC. Too bad Kubiak got taken.

Yet the defense is still holding their own in spite of the problems. Fangio is doing a fantastic job coaching.

Meanwhile, the same problems that were present in 2011 are still here. There's a severe lack of coaching taking place on the offensive side of the ball. This is the #1 issue in my opinion. But with Harbs, if Roman goes he might go to. I agree with alot of you that Harbaugh is the best thing thats happened to the niners in a decade BUT you have to think about is loyalty to his staff. Many of us want Roman gone. What if its at the expense of Harbaugh as well? Would you still do it? I really think thats why his extension was postponed because Jed/Baalke wanted to give it another year to see what he can do with all the weapons they added on offense. Yes I know Harbs brought winning back to SF, but he's also been shy of the SB all 3 years and thats what matters is winning that trophy. In Jeds/Baalke's eyes, theres probably other coaches that can get that trophy with this roster.

I mean people have said in regards to Stanford....Harbs is the guy to rebuild a team, Shaw is the one to maintain it. Maybe its time for another regime to come in and keep it going. Maybe Harbs has done the best he can and now the players are just frustrated that its not enough. When you can taste the SB 3 years straight and not get there.....thats very frustrating as a player.

the guy is as good as gone. all of those reports about him being out the door at seasons end? i bet a decent portion of the leaks come from jims people.

I've got two rules that are absolutely essential for building a successful NFL orginization.
1. You must have a GM with total personnel control. He will build for the future, which is the only way to end up with a SB roster. The HC will make personnel decisions on what's best to win next Sunday, and frankly, if you don't have a chance to go all the way, that just doesn't matter.
2. Your Head Coach must be an offfensive minded coach. There are several reason for this.

First of all, defensive minded coaches have a horrible track record for developing young quarterbacks. They almost always have the philosophy so succinctly stated by SingleCell: "You just don't screw it up, and My defense will win it in the fourth quarter". The result of this is you don't throw it until you have to, and by then, it's third and long. No quarterback can make a living like this, and a young one will get swamped. Examples are Alex with NoWin and SingleCell, Vick with Mora, currently Geno Smith with Rex Ryan, and on and on and on. You never know what you have at qb with these guys.

Secondly, it is far more important to have continuity year after year in your offense. If you lose your OC, your HC can easily find a new one that can keep the same or similar system under his direction. If he's a defensive guy, it will change with every new OC. Defenses are reactive, and new systems are much easier to learn.

Thirdly, defensive minded coaches will never take their chances on offense, and therefore never put teams away by keeping the ball and scoring points. They are always willing to let their defense save the day late in the game, and that's not a high percentage game, especially in the playoffs when the teams are all good and the other team is willing to pull out the stops and gamble on offense.

Fourthly, and most importantly, you must be innovative and able to adjust to what defenses are doing to be successful. The best example ever is Bill Walsh and the WCO. This forced teams to change their defensive personnel to smaller and faster linebackers. You have to be a strategic thinker and attack what teams can't do well, whereas defensive coaches attack what you do do well. And it seems to be a much more complex task to make the correct in game adjustments on offense than on defense. Defensive solutions can be much more obvious.

There are exceptions. I call Bill Belichick one. He came up as a defensive guy, but is very willing to take his chances on offense. I call Harbaugh one, in that he should be an offensive guy, but thinks conservatively like a defensive guy. You can have success running on first and second down, but if you don't, you put your qb in a one dimentional situation, which is what every defense wants. It shows up more in playoff games, when there is no tomorrow and every team lets it rip. He has not been willing to take chances on offense, and my opinion is that this has cost us a Lombardi or two.

I hope we can keep Fangio, but I don't want him as HC, and expect that's the only way we can keep him. I think Harbaugh is gone, but our very talented team is in tack, so I am very optimistic for the future. We just need an aggressive, innovative HC that will keep defenses off balance, and I trust in Baalke to find us one.

I don't.

IMO, I think many teams have got our number. We can't score a TD in the 4th quarter and that's not an accident. They've got us wired - down pat!

Look how many games where we can't score a TD in the 4th quarter.

Our Defense keeps us in games BUT they can't win every game.

T-Rex was the baddest beast on earth BUT died off because he couldn't adapt!
