They got together last year when there was THREE years remaining on the deal. Nothing came of it but that's not a bad thing. Jed said they will pick back up contract talks AFTER the draft is over. Both sides know there is plenty of time to reach a deal

Exactly this x1000!!

It might be a "great listen" if it wasn't Seattle people talking about 49ers.

Never thought of John Clayton as that much of a Seattle homer, but after listening to that wow does he drink the Seahawks Kool-Aid! If you didn't know any better you would think the 49ers are a terribly run organization, drafts poorly and close to completely falling apart. While Seattle is perfect & always making the right moves.

The GM can't just give a player or coach whatever they want. How many deals with high caliber coaches or players get done quickly? The coach/player wants to get paid as much as possible, and the team wants to pay as little as possible. It's not a new concept, and they'll eventually arrive at a middle ground or (unlikely) part ways. I think some of you are too afraid to lose a coach who has been great for the team, and forget that Baalke/Marathe have done an outstanding job creating very team friendly deals that have helped keep great talent. They know what they're doing.

Money isn't the only issue. Power and control is a big consideration for which Harbaugh will try to negotiate.

I am sure Jim will want more say but you can bet that the current structure of Jed/Paraage/Trent/Jim won't ever change. Jim trumping any of these guys will be a non starter. Now as boss I am sure Jed will stump out any disharmony that impedes us from being focused on winning. You can bet your bottom b**** on that! They might let him control some other ancillary things that will aid him in his work but not too much else just yet this early in his career. Folk forget that Jim has been helping the construction team decide things like where are our lockers going to be and how big they need to be and what equipment to install in them. Cmon folk! Does this sound like a guy about to leave? These idiot reporters have been drumming up BS!

The National Football Post's Jason Cole expects the Dolphins to pursue Jim Harbaugh next offseason, "barring a Super Bowl win by the 49ers."

That should help Joe Philbin sleep at night. According to Cole, the "rumor was already out there," and "only got stronger this weekend." Cole's report runs concurrent to one from CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, who passed along Monday that the "feeling within the organization is that Harbaugh is not going to be a 10-year coach with the 49ers." San Francisco has re-emerged as one of the league's elite franchises, but it's got a serious issue on its hands.

Harbaugh and agent David Dunn, however, are seeking to make him the highest-paid coach, something the 49ers are reluctant to fulfill until they win a Super Bowl.

IMO they should just pay the guy, hes one of the top in lthe league, coaches salaries dont count against the cap and we're entering a new stadium which will provide the team with a lot more revenue. even if you make him the highest paid, within the year another guy will pass him.

you do not pay super bowl money if you do not win a super bowl. i would not make him the highest paid coach in the nfl. if that is what he demands then you indeed cut ties with him in my opinion . now if you cut ties with him you do have to bring in a big name like gruden. when you are trying to sell out and pay for a new stadium after you just cut a popular coach,, you gotta make it a little easier to swallow for the fans and i think gruden would be the trick

I would go with David Shaw.

he's not leaving stanford

I think he would.

stanford is his dream job, he has said that multiple times he will stay there as long as he can
NFL jobs trump all. A NFL Jon 30 miles away, will be hard to pass up.

I agree with what you're saying, but that isn't really relevant here.

If the 49ers give Colin Kaepernick too much money, it has an affect on the rest of the team. For example, giving Kaep $20M a year versus $15M a year is the difference between us being able to keep a player like Crabtree around. Everything must balance out in the end. There's a salary cap, and there are repercussions to overpaying.

However, we're talking about Harbaugh here. There is no cap. Coaches salaries to not count towards the salary cap. The 49ers have no shortage of income. They're not going to go bankrupt making Harbaugh one of the highest-paid coaches in the league. It's not going to prevent us from signing players to contract extensions. It will have literally no bearing on the team whatsoever. It would all boil down to the owners not wanting to pay up.

Now, someone else mentioned that the contract negotiations have maybe hit a snag over how much power Harbaugh will receive. If that's true, that sounds very plausible and understandable to me. But if the hangup is over money -- and the sticking point is, "well, you haven't won a Super Bowl yet" -- then that's absurd.

We're not losing Jim, stop all this nonsense.
It's one thing to ask about availability of coordinators or position coaches...because they're largely considered fair game. Asking about a head coach is another kettle of fish...I can understand Jed putting a quick kabosh to any notion the Browns had about acquiring Harbaugh. I also understand the team's policy about keeping most things in-house. That said, it makes me wonder why this story has just now surfaced...the Browns hired a head coach, so why is this now an issue? Methinks Haslam should've just left it alone...but he didn't. His apparent assumption there was friction between Baalke and Harbaugh doesn't justify trying to trade for Coach, IMHO. I'd venture to say there are a number of GM's and head coaches that don't necessarily see eye-to-eye, but they still work together, just as Harbaugh and Baalke do. Wow...

I'm pretty sure one of Florio's sources is either Lombardi or Banner. Either they leaked the story to Florio to save face or Florio heard of rumors and went to them to confirm the story.

They were fired about a week or so before the story broke so that's why the story is coming out now.

yea clayton did come off as a clear homer but seattle won the superbowl and you can't disagree their structure has a more amicable set up right now between gm and coach

also he does have a point on we dont 'know anything about 2013 yet

and i completely agree w/ sando when he says the 9ers offense is too complicated and thus bogs down rookies, sometimes u gotta make it simple and put players in a position to make plays
