espn reporting niners might claim merriman

I´m thinking that Manusky can work out a deal with SD to make sure Merriman ends up here. They tehnically CAN trade him before they put him on waivers, so I think that since everyone knows that they´re going to get rid of him anyways, they´d take a 6th or 7th rd pick from us for him....

that was a lot of pronouns

One of my buddies told me that the niners have already put in a claim for him. Not sure what that meant seems how he didn't explain wtf it meant. Can anyone explain this?

Claims can't be put in until the player has be put on waivers. And even if we did, I doubt we'd get him now that we won a game.

probably one of the biggest football nerds I know. I am pretty sure he sacrifices having a girlfriend so he can just spend time with football.
I know he was juiced but no way this guy isn't a big difference maker when healthy...if he ever is 100% again.

lol That's cool. But he should know that unless they've released him already we haven't put in a waiver claim already. I really hope we get him though. He'd make our defense go into beast mode. I really think he'd benefit playing alongside Willis, Spikes, Justin Smith, etc. Don't forget that when he was balling for the Chargers he had Cromartie covering and Jamaal Williams in the middle. Their D has been swiss cheese since and it became a lot easier to stop him between double teams and their guys just can't cover or they don't get push on the DL. Just imagine Merriman behind Justin Smith
Something to remember though, a team with no real interest in Merriman could still put in a claim just to get something in return. I remeber that happening a few yrs ago when a team picked up a QB just to get a draft pick for him. So just because a team like the Panthers might not want him doesn't mean they won't put in a claim.
Sign him. And put him back on the juice!!!

Since he's made his intentions public about where he wants to play, I don't think it'll be a good move..

He hasn't made his intentions public. All that we have is a report from Schefter. And the follow up report on PFT now adds in the Cowboys to the list of teams (not originally reported by Schefter on ESPN - he may have tweeted something I missed but the only teams mentioned on the original report were Balt and Miami.)

When hes on waivers, all hopes of getting him have been thrown out the window now that we won a game.

Bill and Panthers would have to pass him up first, which I doubt. But then again where would Merriman fit on the Panthers and Bills defense, and they would still have to pick up his 3 million dollar salary. 9ers should just trade for him if its still possible, which I doubt since hes on minor IR.

I have a strong feeling that if we pass him up, we'll be losing out on a solid player.

I agree, I don't think either of the teams ahead of us would attempt to pick him up. If that does happen and he falls to us I pray that we pick him up. I believe he could add an entirely new dimension to our defense. Even though he hasn't been the same player since coming off of roids and the injuries it will still force teams to game plan against him and Willis. Who do you worry about blocking more? Merriman or Willis? Screw it block both.

this just reminds me of the Julian Peterson debate if we should've kept him or not. Then the next year Peterson lights it up and goes to the Pro Bowl.

I feel Merriman's bad play is partly due to his relationship with the front office and just wants a change of scenery. And if anyone knows how this guy really is or whats on his mind its Vernon Davis and Manusky, those two guys are the reason I also think he'll be a good fit here.
I would love if we got him on the niners
