Sproles to be UFA

I would love to see it, but I don't think that it's gonna happen.

I'm not gonna lie, at first I was super excited about Spiller as our return specialist/ home run threat over Sproles cuz he's younger and bigger but the more I thought about it I realized that we need to pick up Sproles because he's a good player who will contribute right away, not only that...what happens if we wait to draft Spiller and he goes in the top 10, we're screwed...plus it gives us more talent and more flexibility with our picks

I think it would be a good idea to make a serious run at him. Gauge his interest and see how high his price tag is.

I would not want to pay him like a feature back, because I do not think he could be one and we already have one and his franchise tag number would be ludicrous as well. 

But if his salary demands are reasonable, I think he would be a good fit. Especially since Jimmy Raye was Norv Turners OC in Oakland, so the offense should be familiar to Sproles if we want him to take a few snaps on offense as well.

One thing worries me, though: I just checked his stats on NFL.com and they are all down from last year, including his return stats. Was it just a down year for him, or should we worry about that? Because return men tend to lose their edge pretty fast, so maybe he already starts to decline? I am not sure...

Is he really the reason they made the playoffs? I would think the Defense and Rivers would have something to say about that. Not getting this guy would, without a doubt, prove McC is a moron? How many years GM'ing do you have? How many SB rings have you won?

I agree, but people are a bit extreme about their hatred of McCloughan because he didn't do what they wanted. Of course he thinks Sproles is a good player, and would make the team better, but you can't get everyone you like. Not only are there 31 other teams whose GM's are then moron's every time a good player moves, but there are so many names that run through this forum that are "no-brainers," that in order for people to not hate Scott he'd need 5x as much cap-space to work with.

Just because they'd make the team better and McCloughan doesn't sign them, doesn't make him dumb, a moron, or a bad GM/personnel director.

That said, I do hope we sign Sproles.

This is an absolute must.

I think Scotty can make an exception to his "big player" infatuation.

Especially if they were thinking of drafting Spiller early on. Sproles would play the same role and allow them to address other needs in the draft.
