Even if Graham gets $10 mil per year, Davis is still fine at his spot of $7 mil per year average (although it was front loaded so his salary these last two years is less than 7).
For me, is all about a matter of principle, you could argue Vernon is supposed to see through his contract, but he is not unreasonable to say he is worth more or underpaid. Like I mentioned before, if Baalke had drafted some decent WRs before, may be Vernon wouldn't have scored 13 TDs and we wouldn't be discussing this. But, facts are facts, the guy balled out and we even played him as a wideout when we lined him out wide in numerous occasions last season. One could put in an argument Vernon is more like a hybrid TE/WR.
And by the way, I wouldn't necessarily call Jimmy Graham the best TE in football. Vernon's skill set is very different and unique. The guy ran a 4.38 40. He is lightning fast, the fastest TE in the league and he is even faster than a good number of WRs. The Saints is a passing team, they threw for over 4,900 yards last season, that is almost 2,000 yards more than us and yet Graham only scored 16 TDs, 3 more than Vernon. I would argue if Kap had thrown for 4,900 yards, Vernon would have easily scored at least 16 TDs if not more. And don't forget, it is a well known fact that Graham can't block. However, Graham will get paid cos he can't get franchise-tagged forever and he is younger than Vernon. However, like I said, don't forget the NFLPA is fighting for Graham's case to be tagged as a WR instead. If Vernon wants more money, he has to do it now cos when his contract expires in 2 years time he will be 32.
One more thing, remember when you said TEs shouldn't be paid WR money cos they don't have to beat cornerbacks ? Well, they do and Vernon did including Richard Sherman, arguably the top CB in the league right now and you might want to listen to what he has to say about Vernon in this clip : http://www.49ers.com/video/videos/Top_100_Players_of_2013_Vernon_Davis/fef7cc38-a4d9-4b7c-b193-67343203fdc3

MM said yesterday on CSN that apparently Vernon's priority is Vernon, and not the team. Not sayin I agree or disagree, just sayin.

The Niners should have drafted Zach Ertz, and then VD would have his successor. Hopefully Vance McDonald can step it up.
I am not a fan of FANTEX, and hope that this new way to sell shares of a person does not create more holdouts. This is also on the FRONT OFFICE, front loaded contracts are interpreted wrong. VD is being underpaid because he was OVERPAID earlier.
Since VD is only concerned with VD, the Niners need to make an example out of him. He is under contract, no statements, only fines. If he chooses to sit out, then he does not get paid, he can retire, but if he un retires then the 9ers have him for two more seasons.
VD has ZERO leverage in my opinion.

I'm sure VMac will show everyone his total game this season...I'm excited to see what he can do. I'm really disappointed in Vernon...he's being selfish and he of all Niners knows full well how close his team is to winning another SB. He also should know there are a number of teammates, guys like Boone, Crabtree, Dorsey, etc. who need an extension a lot more than he does. Maybe Singletary should visit him...

the only question with v-mac are his hands. he gets open, good after the catch, blocked better than we thought. its going to come down to him catching the ball when its thrown to him. he either gonna get better at it or still be that catch every other pass thrown at me type of guy.

The difference between his pay and the highest paid TE is $1.65, maybe the 9ers can add an addendum to Vernon's contact for this year, maybe they can use the half way approach, we will agree to give you $825,000.00 added on to his salary for this year, if he fight to win the superbowl and we do it, he gets the other $825,000, plus we can give to him a salary that is equal to Rob Grankowski's for the next 4 years, which there is not a huge huge difference, but something that can work out for the 9ers in the long run though, because it would not be a huge salary cap value hit. Vernon will fall in line, he is trying to cash in now because he knows he's probably not going to have the same numbers this season due to the stable of receivers we have now. Not worried, he's still a team guy. Kap signing a team friendly deal to help them sign other players also should make him think twice. Maybe
