Not his fault that there is no run game to speak of or that we fall behind early in games.

Great post...

Hill's strength is managing games and not making mental mistakes; not coming back from 21 points down... Smith showed that he's now capable of putting up points for us; but, he did still turn the ball over.

Until Smith proves he's changed, I'm gonna assume that he is more of a risk at turning the ball over; but, he does give us more of a chance to make big plays with his arm. If he continues to put up more points than make mental mistakes, then he gives us the best chance to win.

1/2 a game is not enough to evaluate how far this kid has come. I'm hoping that he's greatly improved; but, I'm not going to crown his ass until he shows us that he has gotten better...

You can't be serious? Please tell me you aren't seriously analyzing a 4th down with 30 seconds left in the game int as Smith being turnover prone and too risky. Sorry, being risky is the right play there, what else did you want him to do? Get sacked like Hill? Or just throw it away?

Wow, just wow.

Yeah you can't kill Alex for that play. There was nothing left to do. But from here on out it's put up or shut up time for Alex.
Has Crashed and Burned....

I am serious; but, not because of a single 4th down interception. Look over his entire career, he has had a problem turning over the ball. You would have to be a serious blind homer not to see this.

It's stupid to assume that this problem has just gone away or that he must have gotten better in this area. I'm not saying that he has not improved (I, for one, hope he has), it's just that he needs to prove it on the field.

But, thanks for asking instead of just assuming you know what I meant.

I'm not killing him for that play. That one play is just another grain of sand on the beach. If all the grains of sand are white, then it's a white beach, right? If you throw one or two grains of black sand on the beach, it doesn't make it a black beach all of a sudden. You'd need to put a lot more black sand down...

Just the way I see it...

The kid hasn't played in two years....is it impossible to improve in that time frame? Maybe that's too much logic for you...but think about this...Alex will throw a pick from time to time it happens to QB's When they can throw down field to make a play....as long as it doesn't cost us games and he's able to make the right reads when it counts we will win more games.

Let's wait and see...but to base your opinion off of 2 year old circumstances is really foolish.

Are you so blinded by your emotions for this kid that you cannot read one more sentence (Such as the one after what you bolded)? Or, maybe that's too much logic for you?

As for the wait and see, that's my whole point... Lets not crown his ass, lets wait and see...

He just hates Alex...there's no reasoning to it. I think he is the one that kicks people out of his bar if they are sporting their Smith jersey.
Hill sucks. 30% of The Zone has a stronger throwing arm than him. period.

I'm still here too. I ate half of my order of crow, lets see him take us to the playoffs now. By the looks of everyone's comments in here, Smith should have no problem leading us to the playoffs.....right?? Or will he just turn out to be mediocre status, which is actually a step up from what he was in the first place. And yes, I would essentially give Smith a pass vs. Indy since, well......its Indy!!! I'm not gonna just automatically pretend, I wasn't a critic a Smith and was always on his bandwagon....nope, he still has yet to make a fan outta me. But I won't doubt it, this past Sunday he looked like a totally different QB, one that has never been seen before in him. Now its up to him, to live up to the hype hes caused around here.
I don't think most of us wanted Hill to fail, but many of us weren't surprised when he started to struggle. Defenses know his game now so many of us saw it coming. I, and am sure many others, wanted Hill to succeed. It's sucked he didn't but like I said, his limitations allowed defenses to figure him out and many here predicted it would happen.

I want the niners to succeed period. With Hill or with Smith or with Davis. My beef with Smith haters has always been that they chose to rewrite history, as if he didn't inherit one of the worst situations and coaches possible as a rookie. It's just a silly argument to deny he didn't and that it didn't affect his development and his health. The worst offenders displayed glee when he was injured and screamed that Trent Dilfer was the answer - disgraceful.

I hope Smith succeeds, but if he fails, I hope Hill comes back and succeeds, and if Hill fails again, then I hope Nate Davis comes in and succeeds. Catch my drift?

Let Hill and smith(major reduction in salary) hold down the QB spot for next season, pick up developmental guy in round 4+

Just say no to Sanchez at 10

We don't need a developmental guy. We have Davis who may become a steal. I'm totally with you on the no Sanchez sentiment. Alex can start if given protection. Hill can back up. Davis will be good someday.

I know I do.. I went out to the park with my kids just to see, and I can still fling the rock 50 yds.. But I had to visit my orthopedic surgeon afterwards ... Now I can't fling the rock at all.

I went out in the yard with my nephews and after not really throwing a football since high school (20 years) I can still throw a tight spiral about 40 yards. Yeah my arm was sore as hell the next day too.
