They had an opportunity to move back where the difference in talent isn't much if anything and picked up a 2027 6th rounder in a draft class much better than this one. This draft class is one of the worst in at least a decade.

Still should have been a better pick considering it's a 2027 pick. Should have been a 5th rounder, we're talking about the Ravens and this could end up being a late 6th rounder when it should have been a late 5th rounder.

That's actually a fair point. It seems like there's a strategy to go for seasoned college players rather than extremely young and raw (but with Potential, with a capital P) ones. It's risky, sure. As is getting very raw ones. Sometimes these risks come off, sometimes they don't. See what happens in baseball when teams sometimes go for college players, and sometimes go for preppies.

But none of this has to do with Big Boards, draftniks, steals or reaches. The picks may or may not pan out, but Kiper's opinion will have bugger all to do with it.

Based on this draft, it seems there's a philosophical shift for the 49ers to valuing high RAS players moreso than other characteristics that were valued in previous drafts. This could be in response to the success the Seahawks had last year with young high-RAS players like Emmanwori.

I'm at a point where I really think Kyle's ego is big enough to think of his roster as merely pieces on a chessboard and he is the real talent ie the Wizard of Oz and the individual players are basically interchangeable.

How else can you justify this draft? I honestly don't think they put much effort into scouting these prospects, perhaps a few hours here and there instead of hours upon hours with a system coordinated with a legitimate scouting department.

Whatever the excuse is, we can't draft. There were countless YouTube vids talking about how the Niners march to their own drummer and basically glom onto players that strike their fancy. They seem to draft using a gut feeling as opposed to rationale backed by heavy research.

Whatever the case may be, it's upsetting!
