With the 11th overall pick..

Same I've learned to see how it works out since drafting Aldon Smith, trading up to #3 for a qb when we didn't have a sure answer made me a bit upset but was still excited. Last year drafting Pearsall I was like wtf but trust Shannahans WR evaluation. I think this year how much we've blown up I might be genuinely upset if they reach for a position that we don't absolutely need
The thing about a first round guard is that if the pick is successful and he's a 3 time pro bowler, you have to pay him like a former top 11 pick, 3 time pro bowler, top player at his position. Then you look at Puni who is on the trajectory of being a high end guard, top 1/3rd guard, possible all pro himself and will command money, and this simply isn't the desired roster construction from KS. We aren't looking to have the 5th highest paid LG/RG tandem in the league. This isn't a position we value that highly. We've got by and even flourished with rookies and veteran scraps.

Now, maybe you generate a different tone if Zabel is a center, but that's a massive reach at 11 and still not historically a position we've paid. Not too mention, and I really like Zabel, he isn't even the prospect Barton was. Since 1999, the highest drafted center went #17 and that was Damien Woody. Your talking about hall of fame, once in a lifetime prospect at 11 and this guy has only snapped the ball a dozen times in a actual game. Center is a projection for him.

No way he is the pick at 11.
The more I read about and watch Mike Green the more hopeful I am that he is considered for the pick. I know there are two accusations in his past but man this guy is scary good. Could be a game wrecker.

Unless Mason Graham falls, I think it will be hard to pass on a potentially elite edge rusher.
Thoughts?

Nolen, mykel or trade back and get Harmon or grant. Mason graham unrealistic dream pick

Too me it would be and I'm a fan of Zabel. This is the type of pick I expect this regime to make. Certainly qualifies as someone nobody here is talking about at 11 and someone that would piss everyone off. Check and check

Only way I can justify it is if they end up with Nolen in the 2nd.

and even then WTF. They really want a center they had a draft full of them last yr. Could have had Frazier…you're gonna tell me they're gonna spend a top 11 pick for him to play center, a position he's never even played? Man I don't know
Exactly you pass on a center in a draft full quality ones to draft one at 11 this year that's insanity.

My thoughts exactly I'd throw in Stewart, think Mykel is a much safer pick. Harmon or Grant would be "ok" I don't see Graham slipping to 11 Nolen I'd be super excited but worried at the same time not only is he a perfect scheme fit but if Kris Kocurek can coach him what a pair they'd be both violent in coaching and play
Zabel would check all the boxes.

-No one was expecting him
-Would be a reach at #11
-Everyone would be mad

Grey Zabel baby!!!!!!!!

If he is the pick, they must believe he can be a special center because there's no world where they can justify drafting a guard at 11. This ain't Quenton Nelson we're talking about here. Furthermore, Shanahan has never drafted a center at any of the teams he's worked for, so this would be a first meaning they must have some kind of conviction that he's a special individual with an incredibly high football acumen.

Can you imagine if Mason Graham falls and they Grey Zabel over him lol fml. I'm reliving 2018.

Stewart's lack of sacks in college make me nervous, but I dig his size. Risky pick, but could see him turning into a beast

I just don't see it. If they get cute and pull some out of left field move and it fails especially after this bs offseason you might have a revolting fan base like the Tomsula/Kelly era. They got so lucky with Purdy that Lance trade should have given Lynch the boot. It's so strange the majority of our 1sts have been straight up busts but they nail it in the later rounds
At #11 I'll be happy with one of these cats:

-Tyler Warren
-Jalon Walker
-Jahdae Barron

I'll be ok with:

-Ashton Jeanty
-Kelvin Banks
-Mike Green
-Jihaad Campbell
-Shedeur Sanders

I don't think we have a chance at Mason Graham or Armand Membou and I think that Walter Nolen won't even be a 1st rounder.

I don't want:

-Shemar Stewart
-Mykel Williams
-Tetaoira McMillan (or any other WR)
-Derrick Harmon (medical flags)

If the pick indeed is Grey Zabel it would be so stupid that it would make sense for this regime
I have absolutely NO idea what they will do! I haven't had an inkling since I was right about Bosa(no brainer on that one), but otherwise it has been a surprise! I do know one thing though! Tomorrow at 30 seconds after the Niners make their pick, this site will go ballistic over the pick, and probably not in a positive way!

That's the only thing negative about him though, granted it's warranted but it would seem the scheme had a part to do with that. I wrote him off till I actually looked into him and was shocked by his strength. Then you have Kris Kocurek who has turned raw freaks into stars.I see Stewart being a solid run defender like Arik Armstead and potentially something special.
