Done three games of Mason Graham now, and watched a cut up of all 34 pressures he had this year as well just to get a sense of how he wins when it works.

The odd thing to me is that for someone who is so stout against the run, he does not have power as a pass rusher.

We aren't re-building. We still have a talented roster that needs veterans and supplemented with rookies. We can't have a Dline full of rookies. And we will have close to 85 million in cap space. Why wouldn't we be players in free agency? Get a few sure things instead of question marks and make a run for the SB in our stadium.
Also, the cap is set to explode the next few years. 70 mil is going to be nothing for contracts.
Ohio State's Josh Simmons was making a run at becoming the draft class' top tackle before getting hurt. Simmons' injury, per sources, was a torn patellar tendon, suffered at Oregon in October.

Buckeyes OL coach Justin Frye did a great job developing him after he transferred in. https://t.co/IHerHEp86E
Hey I hope he does all the tests at the combine. I'll be shocked if that happens.
that $85M in potential cap space is also meant to be rolled into next yr. Niners are bottom of the league in cap space in 26/27 (that's with inflation cap numbers applied) and that's without Brock/kittle etc extensions.
I'm telling ya, they aren't gonna be big spenders in FA. All the 49er insiders are saying the same thing. Maybe they go get one guy and some depth. They aren't gonna be forking over $100M+ in FA contracts.
I would readjust your thoughts on how the off season and roster building goes. Just my two cents.
I will guarantee this regime will have every single roster hole filled with a presumptive starter by the time the draft rolls around. They have done it every single year.

I dont think he will be a bust but he may not be the elite pass rusher at the next level. He will be a force as a run defender and he should eat double teams which would free up Bosa with 1 on 1's

That doesn't mean they're spending over $100M on FA contracts to do it. That means signing people like Floyd, YGM, Campbell, Yiadom Etc

I've seen him comped to Christian Wilkins all over the place. That seems about right.
maybe he drops because he does have some flaws and isn't an elite pass rushing DT. This is a super deep IDL class and that might make someone go in another direction early in the 1st.

16. Thor Griffith, Louisville, defensive tackle
After three seasons dominating in the Ivy League for Harvard, piling up 132 tackles, 33.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks, the former New Hampshire state wrestling champ and hockey standout has transferred to the ACC. He didn't do offseason testing at Louisville, but make no mistake that the 6-2, 320-pounder is one of the most explosive players in college football. Griffith has bench pressed 225 pounds 45 times and ran a 4.95 40 with a 10-yard split of 1.65 seconds. In addition, he has clocked a 4.57 pro shuttle time

Yes, you are probably right. We will mostly sign depth fillers. Guys who can start but are better off as depth backups.
I won't be surprised with a few higher priced guys though.

He seems like a more athletic DJ Jones.
He would be a nice pick. A true NT that can split double teams and shoot gaps. I love the wrestling and hockey background and he should test well.
It's too bad we don't have that 5th round pick

Guys like Jared Ivy, Jordan Burch, Shemar Turner, Joshua Farmer, Darius Alexander, Rylie Mills, Savion Jones, Vernon Broughton, Antwan Powell Ryland and Jah Joyner are like the 20-30 ranked linemen and are all 2nd or 3rd round picks in any other year.

Can easily get that 5th round pick... and 2nd-4th round picks of we are fortunate that someone wants to trade up to #11 for a guy they love.
I really don't want to pick at 11 i don't even care who's there (Carter excluded). Even if just a trade down to 16-19 and pick up an extra 2nd/3rd rounder would be impactful.
Everyone and their mom knows Indy is tied to Tyler Warren. To get him they have to jump Indy. We can be there to assist with that. Or Jeanty to the Cowboys if you wanti him have to jump Dallas. Key for us is to not fall in love with anyone in the top half of the 1st round so we can just say yes easily to moving back.

Just saw two mocks on NFL.com from Cynthia Frelund & Lance Zierlein that both had the 49ers taking Graham at 11. I thought he was a top 7 lock. But maybe teams know some of this.

Saw those as well. Feel like DTs drop a little at the top of drafts. Lance has Nolen as his DT1 (but knows Mason will go before him).

As he should be! I would have no problem drafting him as high as the third, but hoping we have a shot in the fourth or later.
