The Mason Graham-DT-Michigan The Dream is Dead!

Mason at 296 is a non issue. Probably got down in weight to test better which we really dont want him to test well so he falls.

He didn't test. He probably was never 320lbs. I have no issue with his weight, just like I had no issues with Nolen's weight.

Not a problem in the least.

Exactly, and it could mean he got in shape. Wasn't there a story that he put on weight or something like that? Such BS!!

I think 296 is fine, but a lot of folks wanted a bigger DT and a 25lb difference is a big deal.

We watched Aaron Donald absolutely dominate the league for years well under 300 lbs. Technique and man strength can go a long way to accounting for the missing size.

Of course Graham very likely isn't the athletic specimen that AD was so his technique will have to be that much better. All I know is if he does fall to 11(still doubt this) we should jump all over him and be thrilled about it.

It's not the size of the axe, it's how you swing it.
In high school, he wrestled at 287. Because he also played football, that tells me he probably walked around between 295-300. Add in big program CFB weight training and nutrition, and remove wrestling, he probably did play around 310. Id guess he's around 305-310 in the NFL.

It's a big deal for Graham but not Nolen? No one is passing on Graham due to his Combine weight.
There are so many good defensive players this year that the Niners would need to really try hrd not to get at least one that can be a starter. DTs galore. Walker at LB would be nice. Some nice edge players. The Niners have 2 thirds and 3 fourth round picks so they may be able to make a coupleple trades and move upif they see someone they want. They have several spots that need to be upgraded and this draft has players that can fill those spots. They don't need toover reach for some project.

I don't really care that much who they end up with as long as it fills a position of need. DT, OT, LB, guard or center. TE depth. CB. All those spots need starters or depth.

I mentioned it before but I highly doubt we go into the draft without starters in place at all those positions you listed.

Even if it's league average players we sign in free agency this regime always has starters in place before the draft.

There's a difference between starters and good starters. If they can't find at least one interior D lineman in the draft that can start next year then they've done a poor job. OL is a tougher position to learn so sometin=mes it can take a year of 2 and there aren't a lot of premeir O linemen in this draft. I'm definitely concerned about LB since it's no sure thing that Greenlaw will be back or stay healthy. The wide 9 is very dependent on quick linebackers that cover and tackle well.

I agree that those positions are needed but out of those 5 picks, I'd say 2 or 3 of those won't work out. It would be a great draft if all 5 of those picks ended up with productive players. That's just how the draft works, it's a lottery.

That's always true but this happens to be a year when there are very good players at positions the 49ers need. Not just projects or guys that are fringe players.
Give it up guys. This is such a pipe dream. This guy is the next Aaron Donald and will go early. I'd love to move up.

I'm getting the vibes of when Garrett came out and we thought we had a chance at him.
I don't see Aaron Donald at all. He reminds me more of like Quinnen Williams. I think there's a real chance he falls to 11. The physical traits aren't that impressive, and we all know teams are suckers for traits. There were a ton older mocks that have him going to Jacksonville, which makes no sense before Baalke was fired. There's no chance in hell Baalke would've drafted this dude at 5 with those measurables.

hope you're right and he does drop

Even if he did drop, I can see another team moving up ahead of us to get him. I wanted Walter Nolan but apparently he has some major behavior issues.
