This Lombardi guy is so condescending and borderline punchable.
I mean he´s making fun of random guys on twitter asking him about his sources and yes who are his sources?
Because he ´s the same guy that basically said that there´s a rift between Kyle who wants Mac Jones and the front office who wants Trey Lance.
Yet you have random guys I guess like Rappaport or Albert Breer that said that nobody outside of a few people in the organization knows who´s gonna be the pick.
I mean this rift thing between Kyle and Lynch is so 2019.

No they aren't. The only s**t he ever gets right is NE stuff anymore.

Claims analytics suggest Fields is the best match.

It doesn't matter if they're good. If only the 49ers know (and Jets), how are his sources going to know? Unless they are connected to the 49ers or Jets, of course.

EDIT - also, how up to date are they? It's entirely possible, despite the claims here on the board, that the 49ers have changed their minds.

I disagree. I personally thought Mahomes was one of the best QB prospects I seen since Luck. I also think Fields and Lance are benefitting from Mahomes' success. Mahomes has everyone chasing the next him and the false narrative that you need a him to succeed.

I will say that Lance is benefitting FAR MORE than Fields as he his a great prospect on his own merit. My opinion is that Mahomes was a better prospect. Though I can see the argument for Fields I guess.

Mahomes is one of one.

But there are several very good QBs, and Fields has the ACCURACY to be one of them (not even considering his athletic ability).

Yeah every random internet guy had mahomes, Russel Wilson, Dak Prescott, etc. high on their board & why couldn't team X listen to their draft opinion, which is flawless throughout!

I mean go look at some of his old takes...the Josh McDaniels never hesitated for that the colts job and he was always taking it was a good one.

haha what?

The doug Peterson one was great as well...

Everyone knows Peterson isn't a head coach. He might be less qualified to coach a team than anyone I've seen in my 30 plus years in the NFL…When will the eagles admit their mistake? Will they throw away 2017 by stubbornly sticking to the Pederson principle?"

I mean you can find all kinds of gems from this dummy.

Not denying that. So much so that last night I think I moved him ahead of Mac on my want list.
A little thread

He is the same guy who sold Cleveland on the idea he could trade for Jim Harbaugh and when SF didn't bite, Cleveland fired him. He has friends in the league still so he gets a few things, but also thinks he is always the smartest guy in the room. It's why he is out of the NFL.

That's my understanding too. The difference between 3rd, 4th, and 5th means to me that they envision any of the top 5 QBs as upgrades and worthy of the trade up. What we don't know was if the 3rd pick was specifically strategic or if it was pragmatic. At this point it doesn't matter. I honestly believe that because of the COVID restrictions, they didn't know exactly which QB they'd choose / prefer, but the initial scouting placed all 5 guys as worthy of the pick and worthy of at least next year's first round pick too. Also, part of the calculus was that next years QBs were not valued as high, so it was time to strike. And by moving up, it gave them adequate time to examine their options out in the open as opposed to in the shadows at #12.

Breer said they never offered anything for 4-5 and more or less was asking if they were willing to move down....my takeaway from that is they were seeing who wanted a QB in the top 5 and who was willing to move down for someone that may wanted a QB.

They along with Miami didn't shop their pick with any other teams...it was just a matter of Miami finding a 3rd team.

I can't wait for the draft to be done at this point lol

Or it could be that they wanted to go to 3, but Miami wasn't will to go back to 12 so they were checking with 4,5, and 6 to see who would be willing to go back to 12, and Philly was the only team. ????????‍??

My whole point is that I would take a special passing talent over a special running talent that can throw. I am not saying fields cant throw or anything like that - just making a general point. I'm going to root for and support whoever we select. The only Qb I would be disappointed in if we selected would be Lance, would still support him though.

As a prospect Fields is light years ahead of Mahomes coming out of Texas Tech. FIelds is literally a once in a generation prospect. That does not mean he is perfect & will not need to be coached in the NFL. But if he comes close to maxing out he is a top 5 QB easily.

Well if that is true, no need to worry about us signing him as the Jets will certainly take a "once in a generation " prospect.
Fields is a real talent. The "once in a generation" was taken by Andy Reid a couple yrs ago.

Talent is one thing...hyperbole another.
I'm admitting a big reversal on this guy. After watching the Illinois and NW games I doubted his ability to be accurate under pressure and effective against tight coverage. I also didn't realize then how intelligent he was.

The Clemson game was excellent and really showed off his toughness and grit. The Bama game was even better. He showed that he had many wrinkles to his games and even under constant pressure he was able to figure out how to attack that loaded defense. To see him struggle early on and adapt to getting the ball out quicker, shifting to the RPO, and moving the pocket was all next level stuff.

With all the Mac Jones speculation it really made me hope for Fields or Lance to see a mobile QB in Kyle's system. The ability for passers to run and keep the chains moving is so significant in today's game. Mahomes is deadly from the pocket, but when he buys time, then runs for a 15 yard 1st down while the defenders' backs are turned it's just killer. A major deflator to defenses. Jimmy and Mac Jones are lucky to run for a positive gain in those scenarios.

I can just imagine the grin on Kyle's face to see DC's having to waste a LB to spy his QB. That's one less defender on the field for him to scheme against. Fields can add something to Kyle's offense that we've been missing. Most importantly though, he also seems to have the mental tools and toughness that Kyle loves.

I think Fields is our pick. Hold Jimmy for 2021 to (1) immediately be competitive, (2) allow the rookie to learn the system and watch it being executed, and (3) increase Jimmy's trade value. If Jimmy stays healthy and especially if he gets us to the playoffs, we should be looking at getting more than a 1st round pick for him.

Is the draft here yet?
