If Mac Jones is who they want, you can't trade down and still hope he's there...can't do that with the QB position.

If he's the long-term FQB that this team has been looking to draft since they got here you draft him ASAP.

And they don't see CJ Beathard, who IMO was way over drafted.

Right, Beathard was day 3 prospect who was a developmental QB...possible LT backup. I think people are so dramatic when they bring him up regarding how Kyle evaluates QBs (not saying you are).

I mean do people think when Andy Reid drafted Aaron Murray or Mike Kafka on day 3 it was with the intention of them being the franchise QB? Nah, just developing QBs...should always be doing that

If their intentions are to have Mac Jones being the long-term stud FQB, then you don't trade back. The position is just too important.

Joking. I think Lawrence/Fields go top 2. I think Wilson may go top 5. Lance may sneak into top 10 but it wouldn't surprise me to see Wilson outside the top 5 and Lance outside the top 10 either.

Right on, yeah I really think that only Lance is attainable without giving up the farm.

People are gonna be shocked when the draft process is done and Lance is ahead of Wilson.

Personally only thing that would shock me is if Lawrence isn't the first QB drafted.

I've been on record many times saying we should pump the breaks on thinking we need to trade up for someone or grabbing a QB right away.

We've all seen draft stock change quickly in either direction. Carson Wentz climb from second round talk to second overall pick.

We've seen Aaron Rodgers be in consideration for our top pick to going in the 20s.

Countless other scenarios each way. That's why right now I want to see where we end up and how all these guys close out the season and then see how the combine/senior bowl shakes things up.

I agree. I think if your QB project isn't progressing in two to three years or he's just not any good then I'd replace him with another. I'd also keep only two QB on the 53 man roster and two on the practice squad.

If he's there in the first I'd have zero issue drafting him and letting him sit a year or two behind Jimmy.

OL overhaul isn't the salve many seem to think it will be. Its a structural issue in football nowadays. The top talent, the top athletes are winding up on the DL. The guys coming out playing DL are simply better than the OL's that are coming out. The end result of that is more than ever you need QB's that are able to move efficiently, to climb the pocket, sidestep pressure, throw on the run and simply be able to act as an equalizer when you know the four guys across from you are all more talented than whoever you might have blocking for you.

This is a very interesting topic. Middlekauff(former NFL scout) referenced this during a discussion explaining why the CB play in the NFL is awful, and why we haven't seen a true shutdown corner since Darelle Revis. He talked about how all the top athletes are being funneled to and staying with WR because of how WR-friendly offenses and the league is nowadays, whereas in the past if a dude struggled to run routes or catch he was guaranteed to switch to CB.

The defensive play is awful because all the rules favor the offense. They rarely call offensive holding unless it's against the 49ers and if you breath on a QB its roughing. You can't hit a WR or TE anymore over the middle so now they aren't scared to go over the middle. If they had called offensive holding in the super bowl the 49ers win by 3 touchdowns. You have to have a franchise QB to win big in this league now. No more running 35 times,playing great defense and winning 17 to 13.
