WR class 2020

They have bigger needs than WR IMO. DE and OT. They only have 3 DE under contract, the best being LJ Collier. They only had 28 sacks all year, second fewest in NFL. That said, resigning Clowney and adding Griffen would rectify that in a hurry. Then the need shifts more to OT, both the top ones will be gone by their pick.
Could see WR, if their pass rush in addressed in FA. Hope it's not Mims.

Think half their OL is gone as well.

Perfect, Shanahan doesn't throw deep anyways

Didn't know Shanahan was playing QB

The Falcons in 2016 sure did. The 49ers didn't. Which cost them dearly in the SB. The next step for this offense is to get the deep passing game going.
Shanahan is all about the explosive play. It's intrinsic to his football philosophy. In fact, ATL fans b***hed about him being too aggressive with deep shots.

The lack of downfield throws in SF is either due to lack of speedy WR, suspect pass protecting OL, or both.

this.

for a team that didn't throw a ton of deep balls, they lead the league in explosive plays this past yr
We definitely need some deep threats...and a better OL.

The explosive plays were mostly runs. That was definitely our strength last year. Remember the 1st offensive play of the year. Breida the cheetah arounfd the left side for a TD. Let's see if Kyle opens up the passing game a little more this coming year. I don't think we lack guys that can get deep. Sanders did it a few times and he isn't a burner. It's more a matter of the type of plays Kyle is calling. There are really only a handful of burners who can actually catch the ball. Most of the top receivers are in the 4.4-4.6 range.

Sanders is a FA and unless he's takes a massive discount he's not coming back. Most of our WRs are possession guys.

We don't have a guy that can get downfield fast. IMO it doesn't necessarily need to be a 4.3 guy (preferred) it could be a guy like Pittman who's good at deep ball catches (similar to mike Evans)....That WILL require better PP.

The speed is a little overrated. You must have heard that number they spoke about during the combine. They said only 2 players that have run sub 4.3 have ever had as many as 80 receptions. All the top receivers all time have been in the 4.4-46 or even 4.7 range. Route running is what gets guys open, not just speed. With the way corners play back and with the speed they have it's really hard to blow by them without some good moves that makes them stumble. Most of the really fast guys don't have the moves.

Aiyuk unquestionably fits the mold of a Shanny WR.

I understand all of this. Also the guys they were throwing out with those top numbers weren't actually good WRs. You gotta be able to run a route or be able to catch a football. Something Goodwin (s**tty hands) and Ford (couldn't run a route) had problems with.

When you're "slow" you have to be able to win elsewhere though.

Teams have to respect deep speed. There's a reason why kyle always has a burn. It opens up everything.
