Would love to get Taylor Rapp, Jonathan Abram or Darnell Savage. But I don't really see too much interest in Safeties from John Lynch and the staff, kinda worries me.

1. Sherman starts with Witherspoon as his understudy(and 1st. CB off bench when either starter goes down. He 'learns' from Sherman and takes over when he leaves.
2. Verrett starts opposite side. His backup is a 2019 draft pick, or Moore.
3. Williams is CUT, and replaced by the above draft pick IF,,, Moore wins backup job behind Verrett.
4. Tartt and Harris are our SS. point blank period !
5. Ward starts (until he gets hurt, and they finally move on), then Colbert and Exum will start and backup. (changes if we draft or bring in an FS!!! a single high guy, at which case EXUM is toast).

It worries me as well. I know this year most of us would agree that the biggest needs our 1. Pass rush 2. Wr/ redzone threat 3. Better oline 4. Secondary/FS
But last year we all wanted a pass rusher and we debated all the guys like Davenport, Landry and Josh Sweat, etc. because we knew is was a huge weakness for us, and the Front office decided not to address it at all.

Lol! I do agree on the pass rush. It will add to a lot more TOs. I just cringe at the thought of the game being on the line and the opposing team needs to get in field goal range. Beyond Sherman, everyone seems like they have a question mark surrounding them. Whether it's health, or development or just plain suck.

1. They see promise in both Spoon and T-Moore. This year as opposed to last, they will really be competing against each other to start. Not just handing the job like they did last offseason to Spoon.
2. Adding a high upside young vet in Verrett at minimum pushes these guys. If we get lucky, he stays healthy and we got a steal and a starter at any CB spot.
3. Improving the pass rush will speed up the decision making from opposing QB's. At worst, it's less time the CB's have to cover. At best, it creates errant throws that are a DB's best friend.
4. They hope some stability at the S spots helps communication.*
5. Hope that a second year for Warner helps communication
* I think 4 is the one spot they can address. Ward is a bridge, and hopefully the replacement comes this offseason. If not, at least it give Colbert some competition.
Exactly this. We're not gonna add all the pieces this offseason, and our front seven is clearly their first priority. This year we'll create some competition, hopefully coach better, and maybe get lucky with Verrett, as well as other injuries. The secondary will likely be the next focal point of the defense.

Besides an elite pass rush, several other moves have to be done.
The first two = dump Ward and get a wheelchair ready for Verrett. Goodnight!

There's no plan. Just roll with Jimmie Ward and hope Verrett stays healthy. LMAO

Move Ward back to corner after praising him as a safety = most Lynch/Salah type move

Why do people view Verrett as high upside? Guy has played 5 games in the past 3 years combined. He's essentially Navorro Bowman status in my mind.
In terms of secondary, the need for immediate upgrade gets significantly diminished the moment you have Buckner Ford and Bosa coming at QBs. The NYG Super Bowl teams of 07 and '11 (yuck) are prime examples of how you can mask and even win a championship with a meh secondary by having a fierce pass rush.
Make no mistake, I'm concerned as hell for the secondary because it was awful last year, but maybe a guy steps up and that coupled with the pass rush goes a long way.

We all know our secondary is terrible. In a recent article from ESPN, it noted that "the Niners managed just two interceptions, worst in the league, and gave up 35 passing touchdowns and a 105.4 passer rating, both of which ranked 31st in the league."
The Niners have talked a lot about adding closers this offseason. Guys who can finish. We added Dee Ford and Kwon. We will most likely get Bosa (fingers crossed) in the draft. So the front 7 with Bosa, Buck, solly, ford, etc, sound pretty solid on paper. The middle sounds a lot better as well with Kwon and Warner in year 2, etc.
The secondary has no probowl type talent beyond Sherman. We added Verrett on a prove it deal and that's a good signing but he also is just another guy like the many we have that can't stay healthy. A good pass rush will help the secondary so we get a boost from that for sure. But pass rush and coverage kind of work together. We need better players to cover the wrs for just a half second longer so we can get to the QB and create sacks which will create INTS and TOs.
Bosa seems like a lock in the first round. Most mocks on the webzone have us taking a wr in the 2nd and the experts do as well. So that means for most, we don't even address the secondary until after the 2nd round pick. So what's the plan webzone? How do we address this huge weakness on our team? We have all witnessed the numerous games that the Niners were winning or hanging in there, only to see the opposing team just lite up our secondary in the 4th Qtr. Over the past 2 seasons we have lost 11 games by 5 points or fewer. 6 of those games were last year. We added guys in Free Agency and with D Ford and hopefully Bosa, we will have the pressure we have been looking for. But I'm afraid that if we don't add talent in the draft to our secondary, we will just keep losing games in the 4th QtR. So again, what's your plan to address this or do you not think it's an area of concern? What Pick/Round would you use on what player to help our League Worst Secondary?
I don't think our secondary is as bad as many think. I think improving the pass rush will help the secondary. You have Sherman on one side, and he'll be here a while, hopefully. I think he is misplaced, I think he'd be a better safety than a cornerback. On cornerbacks, man I want **SPEED** Just as Kyle loves wr's that have speed and can separate, so I want cornerbacks that can run in the Olympics and be able to win the worlds best dance competition.
In other words, more cover guys than run support guys. What's also missing is that Big Safety/Small Linebacker that can do both - cover and also tackle at the line of scrimmage. John Lynch was on of the best and when he'd drop back the QB all of a sudden didn't have the windows he thought he had. And when the offense tried to run, Lynch was there as the 8th man - sealing the last gap on an 8 man front.
