The recent champion eagles, injured franchise qb overachieving eagles, are running clinics on how to build a dline, take note
Once again former/current NFL players(at least the ones being mentioned) aren't scouts/GMs. And some that are/were GMs haven't exactly been up on things.
My point earlier was that Woody and McGinest are paid to talk about football, share their knowledge and their thoughts. It doesn't mean because they played at a high level that they're perfect judges of talent.
I'd say 60% of what makes a great player in the NFL is inside their head. The 30% is physical/athletic tools, 10% scheme/coaching fit.
That 60% includes their work ethic, knowledge of the game, coachability, film study, working on their craft and technique. That stuff doesn't come up on tape.
And every time I bring it up I feel awful but I still think it's worth bringing up. There are some ingrained biases when it comes to certain positions and race. Just look at the draft breakdowns.
White WRs and DEs typically get the - gym rat, hard working, smart, great technique but with limited potential stamp on them.
And sure if you look around the league outside of maybe Jared Allen and Kevin Greene there haven't been a ton of elite DEs who are white so maybe there's something to it.
Could some of that bias sneak into people's evaluations? Willie McGinest was much closer as a college player to Josh Allen than he was Nick Bosa. Who do you think he'd prefer?
Yes Bosa doesn't have the scary athletic/physical tools of Montez Sweat but I'll take the sure thing with a "limited" ceiling. He's perfect for what we need and given our current roster I can see him having a huge impact with the rest of our guys. If that means he's getting 10 sacks per season with 40 hurries I'm good with it.
