No private but at the combine.

Those meetings at the combine are only 15 minutes though.

One of the bay area reporters has billy price as an official visit
22/30 visits. Niceeeeee
At 99 players now!

Are we done. Well, are we?
Since we're done with the final private visits, I compared MadDog's 256 with Tuls 300 to our list of roughly 100 players we have been tied too and quite remarkably (or not), they are very very similar.

Therefore, here is the final list:

Position - Quantity / Projected Rounds (Quality: # Rd 1 or 2)

ER - 10 / 1-5 (8)
LB - 12 / 1-7 (5)
CB - 17 / 1-7 (4)
WR - 17 / 1-7 (4)
T - 7 / 2, 4, 5 or 7 (3)
DE - 13 / 2-7 (2)
S - 6 / 1-4 or 7 (2)
RB - 4 / 1, 2, 4 or 7 (2)
C - 7 / 1, 5, 6 or 7 (2)
G - 4 / 1, 2, 5 or 7 (2)
QB - 3 / 2 or 4 or 7 (1)
TE - 4 / 5 or 7 (0)

Order of Importance Based on Visits: ER, LB, CB, WR, T, DE, S, RB, C, G, QB, TE

So what can we surmise by all of this?

* The obvious is that ER is a HUGE priority (duh, but this certainly validates the obvious). ER is all but guaranteed to be the first or second pick.
* Conversely, QB and TE are dead last (which is awesome!)
* Then it gets fun. WR was the real surprise for me, dead even with CB in volume and quality. But when I dove into the 15, Kyle is certainly after a tall RZ threat who can learn under Garcon for a year. The small group of WR's under 6' were special teams returners and backups to Trent Taylor at YWR. Don't be surprised if we take one of each (ZWR earlier, returner, late).
* CB is the exact same concept as WR...tall, long outside CB's and a short list of smaller nickel/dime/slot CB's.
* Naturally, LB climbed the list and picked up steam towards the end here. But it's a deep group so it being 4th hints it might be our 3rd-5th pick. It varied through all three LB positions (SAM/MIKE/WILL).
* Next up is T. This was nice to see...like with WR and CB, we have an older player we're counting on and this is the year to train their understudies. With Staley 33 and Brown's health and future in question, now is the time to draft a developmental T.
* Next in reading the tea leaves, is DE. The volume here was a surprise to me as I just figured Solomon and Armstead would man the Big End spot with Tank gone. If they are looking to trade or drop Armstead or plan to move Thomas inside more, this pick would make much more sense here.
* S is obviously a position we need depth at (esp. FS) and if we struggle finding a SAM/MIKE/WILL, a SS in this class might be a great option as a hybrid. Remember, Chancellor James and Adrian Colbert were both found as an UDFA and 7th rounder.
* RB should be down the list as we really only need a specific type of RB...perhaps, a thicker inside zone RB to help balance out McKinnon and Breida.
* Finally, finding C & G so far down the list was a bit surprising to me but then again, this is a very deep draft class for interior OL and the coaches may feel better than we do with the competition in Cooper, Tomlinson, Garnett and Magnuson.

Disclaimer: This list isn't meant to imply this is exactly how the draft will go down but merely provide some insight into how the FO may be valuing positions and the quality of the players we were connected to within them.

Props to Hero, David, MadDog and Tuls...looking forward to next year!

It turns out we've met with every player we've drafted as confirmed by the player interviews. But Kyle noted, they had to keep a couple of these quiet so as not to draw attention. Kyle also seemed to be well aware that the media is tracking these visits and connections and half-jokingly said, there are risk-rewards with each (b/c of the exposure) and he has to change it up a bit and not always draft players we're connected with.

"All of these visits are a big high risk-reward. We don't want you guys to guess every one of our mock drafts. They can't be automatic in that you only draft people you meet with...gotta mix it up for you guys." - Kyle Shanahan

Here is him talking about it...see the 12:30 mark: http://media.49ers.com/audio_display.cfm?audio_id=7229

In short, we're on track.
