Edmunds or Roquan Smith?

If the Super Bowl showed us anything it's that the NFL has made this an offensive league. I don't care how good of a defensive player you are the rules have you playing with one hand tied behind your back. No hitting above the shoulders or below the knees, penalty for hitting a defenseless receiver, no touching a receiver 5 yards past the line of scrimmage and on and on. When a pass is incomplete the receiver claims interference every time. So if you want to compete for Super Bowls you must out score your opponent. The Niners should draft on the offensive side of the ball to keep pace.

The Conference Championship games included the #1, #2 and #4 scoring defenses in football. Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees only have a ring apiece largely due to sub standard defenses.



Defense is still absolutely crucial if you want to win a SB.

it's funny two weeks before the Super Bowl everyone in here was talking about how defense win championships 3 of the 4 teams (Philly/Vikings/Jags) had top 5 defenses (you could add Pitt who was 5th overall).

People also said you don't need a top end QB because Foles/Kennum/Bortles were in the finals as well.

It's all about having balance IMO. SF churned out the 12th overall offense this yr with Jimmy G for 5 games and a bunch of nobodies on offense really.

Exactly on point about balance. The eagles offense was crazy but the defense helped big time with the win by Brandon graham strip sacking Brady.

Roquan is a safer pick. You know what you're getting with him, and he'll be very, very good. That said, he's a weakside LB strictly.

Endmunds is so intriguing because he plays every role on the field despite being absolutely massive for an LB. He will look phenomenal at the combine, just as much as Smith will. Very fluid athlete who's just as adept playing in space as he is taking on blockers.

I prefer Edmunds for the 49ers because of what he could become either as a Mike (leaving Reuben to play Will as he did next to Coyle) or projecting as a Sam with more pass rush responsibility (he didn't do that in college, but he definitely has the prototypical size).

Reminding me of Haason Reddick a year ago. A guy who was lauded for his incredible athleticism, versatility and ability to play all over the defense. As a rookie he played at several positions and wasn't good at any of them and saw his snaps drop drastically by season's end.

where did this jabroni, edmunds come from? He's another Solo....he's someone who may be undeserving to be a top pick. BTW, who has better instincts? That's the guy I want. IDGAF who runs the fastest 40, has the thickest thighs, or graduated high school a year early. That s**t doesn't matter to me at all.

the game ending play was a defensive one with the strip-sack fumble. Sure the defenses were slacking but it took a defensive play to essentially decide the game.
