Wouldn't be shocked if he's a riser in the draft, could be that the 49ers even show interest as he has a lot of traits that work well in Shanahan's offense, namely a super quick release, patience in the pocket and athleticism to get outside of the pocket and throw on the run accurately. Watching him play and a lot of the writeups on him, he sounds like a guy that Kyle would be very interested in. His size and lack of a big arm will limit his ceiling but he has all the makings of a top notch NFL backup QB and a great fit in the WCO. We can say this with confidence: Lauletta has NFL-starter level accuracy and ball placement. I would even argue it's NFL Top-16 level ball placement. Lauletta has (and will continue to) receive Tony Romo and even Jimmy Garoppolo comps for his gorgeous mechanics and instantaneous release. Often, when evaluating quarterbacks, we conflate throwing mechanics and release time: bad throwing mechanics = slow release time. This is not always the case (see: Matthew Stafford, Phillip Rivers), but it's often the opposite that holds more truth. His quick feet allow him to reset quickly and fire. He has good weight transfer, and his hips and upper body are usually in sync when throwing. His throwing motion is very efficient with little wasted movement. Lauletta doesn't drop his eyes when the bodies come flying at him, and he's an accurate passer under pressure. Subtle footwork allows him to manipulate the pocket to elude rushers. Also, he can get outside the pocket and pick up yardage with his legs when he has to. He shows good touch and placement when throwing on the move The ball is often out well before the receiver has even broken off his route. He throws with great anticipation, often seeing the window well before his target breaks open. He works the middle well and sees underneath linebackers in coverage, often throwing over them to fit the ball to his target. He also does a good job using his eyes to freeze safeties and linebackers to create open throwing windows. Lauletta's pre-snap recognition is evident as he makes checks at the line of scrimmage and reads the defensive coverage. He works through multiple progressions and doesn't stay riveted on one read. Since 2014, Richmond has had a different offensive coordinator every single season. He's currently on his fourth offensive coordinator, Jeff Durden, who runs more of an up-tempo offense. His previous coordinators had a reputation for being more traditional with their offenses, more under center, 3-step and 5-step drops. Wouldn't be surprised of Belichick and the Patriots come sniffing around as well, he seems like the type of QB to also catch their eye. Kyle comes from a football family. Kyle's Dad, Joe, played quarterback for Navy in the 1980s. His father has had a big impact in what he's taught him about being a leader.

I would take him earlier than that. Having a guy with that kind of ability backing up Garoppolo. That is peace of mind that you can't put a price on vs hoping that Beathard stops holding on to the football forever.

Trad down a few spots in the 1st, acquire a late 3rd rounder, add Lauletta, throw him into a competition with Beathard, see who wins out.

Getting the ball out quicker can be taught.. CJ was just a tough SOB playing with house money and figured he'd hang tough and try to make some big plays.

Anyways I really havent seen a case where someone drafts another QB in top half of the draft when we took one in the third last year and used a 2nd rounder on another QB were about to pay big time.

Beathard was largely the same guy he was in college, hanging on to the football way too long. At some point being willing to be a tackling dummy stops being a merit and starts being a point of criticism.

Having a guy with a super quick release, who is decisive, has great feet and ability to throw on the run like Lauletta does backing up Garoppolo would be such a great fit that I'm sure the thought will cross Kyle's mind at least a few times before the draft. Whether they actually pull the trigger or not, we'll have to see.

I feel where you're coming from but ask Alex Smith if he learned to get rid of the ball quicker after some time in the league

I don't see him going that high. Garoppolo was a better overall prospect and even he didn't go higher than the late 2nd round. I think he's a late 2nd to late mid 4th rounder if all goes well.

I'm sure CJ will look improved, I'm just not sure that it will ever be enough. If the 49ers were to draft someone like Lauletta, it'd be a pretty clear sign that Kyle agrees.

I don't think he'll go that high either, but I wouldn't be shocked by it. If his interviews go really well, I can easily see some team falling in love with him and not want to risk someone else getting him at the top of the 2nd round.

If they hadn't traded for Garoppolo, I'd be on the Lauletta bandwagon SO HORD.

For Kyle's offense he has everything you need, pocket presence, patience, athleticism, accuracy on the run, great ball placement and guts.

Probably?

This league is very QB hungry. He's definitely getting selected on either day 1 or 2.

We saw Wentz go from small school day 2 or later prospect, to a top 5 pick in the span of a couple of months.

Lauletta's stock is soaring right now after that performance. Teams will definitely be doing their homework on him to see if his tape is consistent.

That becomes a very interesting scene. Obviously the 49ers had some film on him before he got to Mobile, hence the interview. It wasn't just his throws but his footwork and reading the field. Kid looks legit.

With the way he played today, plus the interview, CJ Beathard might not want to take out a long-term lease on a house in the South Bay.
