Denzel Ward

I don't care how tall or short a guy is as log as he can play. Sounds like this kids athleticism more than makes up for any height issues.

Similar to what he'd do here. Cover 3. Bail to third and read the QB's eyes through the 1(outside) and 2(inside) receivers. Ward plays the two vertical routes evenly so that he can contest the #2 receiver down the seam. He read the QB the whole way. He missed the ball by a hair, but the most important thing here is the intelligence. Dude is a smart DB. This is the type of s**t that Rashard Robinson failed at and got him shipped out of town. Hate to be brash, but he was too dumb to play in this scheme. Dude was oblivious when it came to this type of stuff.

Obviously the all star games and combine sink or rocket a player up the board. Wonder how this guy will pair out. Wonder how low we could go and he still be available.

Whats also good about this is he is still in position to make the play and has the speed to possibly tackle if needed

How does that explain Witherspoon? To me, for a CB, physicality is at the bottom of the list. Give me a guy with these traits:

1. Smart
2. Fluid
3. Fast
4. Quick
5. Ball Skills
6. Aggressive

I agree...you don't want someone afraid of contact out there but corners #1 priority is to stop the passing game. Ideally you want a guy who checks all the boxes but if a kid can cover and play smart football and get himself into position to make plays...even if they suck at tackling they can at least get in the way and have others make plays.

If he was only taller but definitely a baller.

Different time/era but Darrell Green wasn't exactly big and was a baller.

But the $50,000 question is can a 5'10 receiver "cover" a 6'3 or 6'4 NFL receiver successful as a #9 overall pick. You're not going to take a CB that high and have him only play dime or slot.

Draftniks say he's got pretty long arms and weighs nearly 200 pounds. If those checkout, he'll be fine outside, especially if Saleh wants to mix things up this year and dial up more man.

The real question is are they willing to deviate from the Frankenstein archetype.
