The Marcus Davenport Hype Train Is Leaving the Station

Quote from the article.
Davenport knows why NFL teams are probing his psyche and his background.

"They are looking for my love of the game," he says, "to see if I can go from calm and mild-mannered to aggressive. I like to think I'm a calm person with a violent side on the field. Jekyll and Hyde. But I'm just trying to be myself."

It's interesting that he knows why he's being looked at from a mental point of view. I'd chance it and pick him in the 2nd round (I know he probably wouldn't last till the 2nd) but that's where I can feel comfortable taking him. I'm still seeing him as Kwami Harris Davenport, unfortunately.

Not an analysis, but more of a background story for Davenport:

Man I can tell he is a genuine good dude and has all the potential in the world, but I think my biggest concern with him after reading this is how can he handle teammates that are like Sherman that will call you out in practice if you don't perform up to snuff. He plays like a monster but has a mentality of a soft spoken poet. That isn't a bad thing but if you think about some of the best pass rushers of all time, most of them are crazy mofos. LT, Dean, Deacon are deadly pass rushers with an a*****e mentality. He doesn't have to be like them, but showing a little fire would alleviate some of my concerns for him.

I said this about him time and time again, if he were cosidered a 2nd-3rd round pick he would absolutely be on my radar, but in the first where I think landry is there, I can't be convinced that he will be a better pick.
I'd be more worried how he responds to a concussion or two. Guys whose hearts aren't in it check out after brain trauma.

I don't like the idea of our presumed alpha-male edge rusher thinking about playing Pokeman and watching Dragon Balls when Marshawn Lynch is coming at him with a head full of steam.

Hey hey hey! I don't mind any player being into saiyans...as long as they play like them

I do agree with your first point though...if you don't love this game then something like an injury or two can make you say bye bye real quick especially if you get a pretty good first round contract.

Good starting point for someone's life if they don't see this NFL thing as a calling.
I like Davenport's physical tools but if his passion for the game is missing I would have to pass. Lynch will definitely have to dig in more on that aspect.

The article reminds me that these athletes are after all just 21 year old kids.

Like you have any idea on that.

I don't think you actually read the post. I said "if" hypothetically and followed that up with Lynch will have to dig in further. If you've read the thread you would see that I have advocated Davenport do your criticism makes zero sense.
Davenport seems pretty dedicated to me. If you're gonna criticize his play that's understandable. But dude has heart and dedication. He worked his ass off to put on size and build that body.

He has some nerdy interests. But I rather him be into s**t like that like Jonathon Allen/Solomon Thomas than be into lean and b***hes at the club.

Its literally Lynch's job to "dig in further" on EVERY prospect. You do know that right?

This really doesn't deserve a response but you get that teams and in this case GMs put more time into some players than others right?

Foster and Joe Williams are two prime examples of that happening last year.

Wouldn't it be something if he was bi-polar like TO and Haley. They were quietly normal for the first 3 or 4 years. Too quiet almost. Then by the 3rd and 4th years they became monsters. They started pissing on coaches cars and calling their quarterbacks gay. Then the next thing you know, we're trading them to dallas.

"Whoever gets (Davenport), they're licking their chops," one of the scouts said. "He's smart, he's articulate, he learns well, he loves the process of football. It's a good deal whoever gets him."
