The Marcus Davenport Hype Train Is Leaving the Station

Looks like a man among boys. He's throwing Tackles and Tight Ends around and he's got a speed rush. Nelson, Roquan, or trade down with a QB needy team to get this guy. I'd be very happy with any of those outcomes on Day 1.

Kiper has Davenport going 14... He has Landry going in the later 20s

Davenport looks pretty intriguing - I'm jumping on the train.

Matt miller and Conner Rogers did a live mock and Rogers picked this kid to us at 10.

Matt miller who's a diehard Niners fan isn't as high on him and can't see us going DL in the 1st 4 yrs in a row. We will know a whole bunch more after the senior bowl

Senior bowl and combine can help him a lot...he wouldn't be my favorite pick at 9/10 but at the end of the day if he ends up being a dominant pass rusher then it would be a great pick.

My concern would be he's still pretty raw. Landry may not be as exciting given the size/potential but he's a proven pass rusher who can help us right away and given the expedited rebuild I'd love to get a guy who can get in there right away and contribute from day 1.

Granted if Davenport was similar to Aldon as a rookie which is just be a 3rd down/pass rush specialist that would be ok as well but I hate drafting projects/raw players with a top 10 pick.
ok from watching the film he looks like a guy who is stiff with no bend around the corner and using his strength and hands to win battles. But alot of descriptions ive seen from scouts say he was amazing athletic ability and agility to get around a OT. what do you guys see?

also i noticed he never has his hand in the dirt.

im really warming up to the pick. But If i had a draft board my players above him would be roquan, nelson, and jackson.
earlier Mock's had him going in the 3rd

looks like his stock has risen dramatically , him and Witherspoon would give us two , young and aggressive 6'3 CB's , making our defense difficult to pass against , provided we shore up the LEO position and add more talent for the front 7

Think you have him confused with someone else he's a DE

Which film did you watch just curious?

First film I watched on him was Texas A&M tape from last year and saw the same things you described. I looked at his more recent stuff, granted against weaker competition, and he looked much more fluid....not explosive around the edge or anything but Aldon Smith in a way. Aldon wasn't the most agile of players but he got the job done.

That's why I'm really curious to see him at the senior bowl to see how he does against better players/top competition and curious about his combine numbers to see how athletic he is(or at least in shorts)

Goes #7 overall in this mock.

Kudos to PHX for highlighting this guy about a month back before all the hype
Hard to not get excited way too early and make JPP comparisons but damn could we use an elite pass rusher.
My question w/Davenport is the level of competition he played at UTSA...can he stay productive against better talent. Possible mid-late round pick, IMHO. For the Niners, I'd say Lynch is thinking Chubb or Key kind of players who've played much tougher competition.
