Guys get their hands on him and it's almost always over, he doesn't have a counter. Pretty good hand swipe combined with his long arms and he is able to take the edge a few times a game, but that and the bull rush are it. Lesser tackles that he should have dominated were able to repeatedly wash him out. Best All-Around end without a doubt, but that's only because the other top prospects lack consistency and/or run defense. Chubb in my opinion will give you, 6-10 sacks and be a stout run defender on the edge at the next level per year. What he won't do is consistently bring pressure and hurries to the qb snap after snap with a few of those being sacks, which is what everyone wants and needs, it's also what everyone says will turn more of Buckner's hurries into sacks, but that's what Chubb won't do. Most of his plays come from inferior players making mistakes, that wont happen as often at the next level. Arden Key and Harold Landry both seem to put stress on the lineman play after play, (albeit when they're "on"), even when the lineman are in position, they're also a lot more fluid rushers, similar to Aldon Smith to me, which is what the team needs. Arden Key put a spin on this lineman who was in perfect position, technique was good and everything, it was so smooth and quick, the lineman literally looks down at his hands like, "what just happened". Highly doubt he is there when we pick, but that is the type of pass rushing we need, dudes who can put lineman on skates 1v1.

+1000 for the detailed scouting report.

I'm super excited for Landry and warming up to Key pretty quickly.

I think you're right about Landy being "on". He's very boom or bust to me -- think Vic Beasley. Could lead the league in sacks one year and give you 6 sacks the next.

9. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (6-10)Edge Bradley Chubb, NC State
The defensive line has been a consistent theme to recent 49ers' first rounds, but Chubb brings a different dynamic to the table. He finished No. 6 overall among edge defenders at 89.4 including the No. 3 mark against the run and the No. 11 grade as a pass-rusher.

He wont make it to pick 9/10

North Carolina State's Bradley Chubb isn't just the top senior on my board; he might also be the first defender drafted. After talking to one general manager this weekend, he said Chubb has the size (6'4 1/2", 275 lbs), agility and strength to be a top-five pick.

I don't think he'll be there either. Couple other things I don't agree with in PFF's mock:

  • Mayfield going #1 overall to Browns
  • Barkley going #10 to the Raiders

FWIW

"Here's the latest mock draft, which comes through the lens of what I would do as general manager of every team, not what I think or hear is going to happen."

So i think they know Mayfield wont be #1 (at this point).
Safe to say I'd be super surprised if we had to choose between Chubb and Barkley lol

PFF thinking is solid, but at least one (maybe two) of those QB teams will sign a veteran.

I'd be happy with this..
Chubb's arguably the best pass rushing DE in this draft...and let's face it, so far nobody on the current roster's shown they can handle the LEO position. It could come down to which position's deemed most important by Lynch/Shanahan...pass rusher or CB. They're both high on the priority list...lack of a consistent pass rush really crippled the defense for a good portion of the 2017 season...and often the CB's were hung out to dry because of it. Still, DJ's not the answer, that's for sure. I'd have no problem with either Chubb or CB Joshua Jackson...both are needed. Anyone for a coin flip?
Chubb is listed as 276.. I wonder if he dropped to 265, how much his bend/40 would improve.

Chubb really isn't a LEO either. He is more of a strong side DE which isn't really a huge need.

The LEO's in this scheme are closer to 260, not 280.

I know its not a perfect fit but say he DOES slide.. You dont think he could play base LEO and slide to LE in nickel? Elvis rushing on opposite end? Marsh rotating.
Man I don't see any scenario that has him falling to us. I think he's going to kill it at the combine and one of those top 5-6 teams will grab him. No way he slides past Tampa if there

Davenport is probs the better fit but options are always good

This mock is utterly ridiculous but I'd be stoked...Saquon, Chubb, Nelson, Roquan, Ward, and Jackson all available at our pick. My rule of thumb is that I stop reading mocks if Lamar Jackson is taken in the top 10.

you can't say that he won't make it to the 49ers when it's only january. He could have a bad combine that pushes him down the draft board.
