Are you talking starting quality right away or ever? Just curious. My guess though is that Shanahan has studied CJ a hell of a lot more than you or anyone in the WZ (or Mel Kiper or any of those guys) so I am will have to trust his judgement on this one. It is only an error if he doesnt prove to be a good player in this league and that wont be known for quite some time.

The funny thing is... if Peterman had been the pick most would have loved it. You know... the guy who still hasnt been picked yet by any team and who our QB guru clearly didnt like as much as Beathard.

Let's just put it this way, if Trent Baalke had drafted this guy people here would have been freaking out. :) Honestly, the 49ers will be lucky to get two REALLY good players and 1 decent one out of this - or any - draft. It's the same for every team. Given where they draft him, the team isn't going to be bankrupt if he sucks so....I guess we'll see.

Kilper still has qb listed as our need

just terrible pick... terrible. he would have been there in the 5th and if they wanted a qb there were better options. terrible lynch. terrible. we drafted a guy who will only be a back up for us. that mentality is for suckers and losers. terrible job lynch. terrible.. he is a game manager at best and takes way to many sacks, terrible . but oh my god. i am questioning god lynch so strike me down. am glad we got his teammate the tight end. but this guy.. what is the key word, terrible

The point is that he was over drafted, unnecessary to move up. Could have picked a great player at 109 and waited until the end of the 4th to draft Beathard

Why do people on here keep saying "he would of been there in the 5th or 6th", you don't know that at all. The reason they moved up was most likely because they got wind of someone wanting to draft him.

Teams typically move up to get who they want because they are pretty sure someone is going to get that person before their next pick.

Well I bet the season before last, Iowa fans were singing his praise. That team lost a ton of talent to graduation/draft and then lost more to injuries.

he plays on a team in a pro style system, pro style system requires talent. You can't just use a bunch of athletic guys like you can in a spread. He also plays in an extremely competitive conference that has teams with some of the best talent in the country.

I am not saying he is innocent, he was injured and didn't always play well for sure, but that doesnt mean he wont do well with us and actually become a good player for us.

When it comes to QB, can't predict who's going to be good or not from 3rd round and on. Tom Brady, Wilson and Prescott ??? You just never know.

he has less pocket presence than ck. the reason why he was hurt is cuz he took a ton of sacks. our team is crying out for quarterback help and the best we can do is get a guy who may become a decent back up.

The Brady pick was all luck.


Wilson and Dak were dropped for reasons besides their actual play. Should have never went as late as they did.

And there are multiple pieces of info that support this:
- coming into the draft, Beathard was told that he should expect to go somewhere between rounds 3 and 6 (i.e. 3rd round was not out of the equation)
- Ian Rapaport Tweeted, shortly before we got him, that Beathard was a player that "should go higher than expected"

If you go by his 2015 film, he's a 3rd rounder. If you look at his 2016 film, he's a 5-7 rounder.

Shanahan must've liked the 2015 version

Easily my least favorite pick. Too much talent was left on the board for this scrub
