C.J. Beathard QB Iowa

If Beathard shocks the world and can actually push for the backup spot this year, Kyle is going to have some serious clout on these QB picks.

MD is the freaking man, but I also must disagree with him here. Labeling this a mistake because he won't start is confusing. Except for Watson, none of the other QBs should have meaningful starts YR1, but most will get to start at some point YR2+ because of what their teams gave up, even if they suck and set their teams back years. This guy won't start at all unless he earns it, which is a what you would expect for what is essentially a 4th round QB.

I won't argue that we should have waited and picked someone else though, but I'm also willing to give Kyle S. the benefit of the doubt here.

Guess he's has a little more arm strength than I thought

Arm cocked back and ball came out pretty quick, didn't look like he had to put all his body into it (looked pretty easy for hime). Nice throw!

He's not going to throw a 90 mile per hour fastball at the feet of a receiver 5 yards away. His short area accuracy is pretty good, good touch on his throws, its when he throws past 15 yards that lots of fun adventures happen.

he has a lot of work to do, but I can see why Kyle Likes him.

Well to be fair someone thinks he is a starter. How many guys over the years didnt make it on your big board but are starting in the nfl?

I disagree with this. If all he ever becomes is a legit back up QB then this is still a good move. QBs get injured. Having a young guy come in on a four year deal and learn this system ... he could be the difference between 11-5 and 8-8 in a few years in the event our starting QB gets injured in a season that matters. See: Raiders (2016), 49ers (2012).

Maybe he can be the next Gary Kubiak (backup, OC then HC) for us if he doesn't make it as a starter..

Well its clear on his tape that he has ball velocity. He does not look like he can change up his ball velocity at will. He might have the intangibles that Shanny wants to work with the guy to see if he can mold him into something,

Clearly the 49ers Really wanted "THIS GUY" for a particular reason.

My problem from a life time of watching College and NFL football is...... RARELY do you see subpar College QBs become better QBs in the NFL. In fact they rarely are better Pros then they where in college.......Drew Bree's comes to mind...he was a very good college QB, he is a HOF NFL QB.

If you have the tools to be an NFL QB normally you can dominate at the College level.

This QB, has a REAL throwing the football. He was in a play action offense that was some what gimmicky. It is a running offense that play actions a lot of passes to get the QB easy looks. In the NFL it would be harder to play action with the same volume.

Even considering how much play action was used. CJ only completed 30% of his passes over 20 yards.

We have to have faith that Shanny got the guy he wanted, i guess we have to believe that This was the right guy in the WRONG situation. Right guy in the wrong offense, Right guy in the wrong program that could not get him talent to work with. Its not him...its them.

Then we have to believe that Bobby Beathard, who is NFL royalty could not pull any favors and get CJ into the right situation to show off his ability.

Thats a lot of circumstantial information we have to throw out to jump on the CJ hype train.

I personally have a TON of faith in Shanny SR and that extends to Shanny Jr. So I really hope this works out. I will root for CJ, and we all like underdogs. I hope he does great, but i expect he will have a rocky road in the NFL.

Anywhere Shanny goes he has had success with the QB position
Why are people upset he took his guy, I don't get it
