The chances of Elflein, a top center prospect only because of a weak OL draft, starting over zuttah, Beadles, or Kilgore, is much lower than Witherspoon starting over johnson

Johnson probably won't even be the starter, IMO. I think Robinson & Redmond will.

This!
The Niners already have big CBs with ball skills. He'll probably be like 5th or 6th on the depth chart this year.
Meanwhile, Pat Elflein could have competed for the starting C position.
You have a lot to learn bud. This 5th or 6th on the depth chart? You're crazy.

Robinson, Redmond, Ward, Johnson...
Witherspoon.
Not totally unrealistic.
Meanwhile, I think Pat Elflein could beat out Jeremy Zuttah by the end of the year. I think he could've been a starter for 10 years at C.

I see Robinson being penciled in as the starting CB. You need to realize Redmond was injured all of last year. There's potential there, but I think Witherspoon has a really good shot as starting opposite Robinson. It's not much of a stretch because our CB's aren't the greatest. Plus, I think this is the year Ward makes the move to safety.
As for Zuttah, he'll wind up being the starter. I think Zuttah is just a stop-gap at center, but he is talented, hence why he made a pro-bowl appearance. According to lots of Raven fans, the guy seems to be overrated by many. All I can say is we'll see what happens.

Rookies usually fall behind vets until they earn the respect to move up the charts, especially a 3rd round pick. Not totally unrealistic.

Yes. He was the guy I would've taken instead of Witherspoon.

Ward is likely to start at FS. Redmond is likely to compete for reps as the slot corner, and that's if he's healthy. Witherspoon instantly gets drafted into #3 on the depth chart at outside CB with a good chance to start.

Jeremy Zuttah was acquired in a trade a few months ago. He was a Pro Bowler last year.
Jeremy Zuttah? It was reported that he was going to be cut if he didn't get traded. For a savings of like 2.4 million. And he got traded for nothing. I think you're putting a meaning on a meaningless pro bowl. Zuttah's not that good.
I'm not putting meaning on anything. You asked the question and just put the answer out there. If you knew Zuttah was on our team I doubt you would've asked the question.

Zuttah was the 13th overall center last yr...I'll take that all day for a swap of 6th rd picks. I'll take a proven vet vs a 3 rd rookie at center.

Ward will play FS, but he might move to the slot in the nickel package.

You're right that I haven't seen Zuttah very much, but I know that Ozzie Newsome knows how to buy low & sell high. A 30-year-old center making what he does & who can play at a high level doesn't just get thrown away like that. I don't expect more than mediocre play from him, and I think Elflein will be a top-10 center in this league.

Ward is a FS, and there are two starting outside C positions, so that would essentially make him 2nd or 3rd string.

Ward might play some nickel too, which is sometimes the majority of defensive snaps. So until he stops playing CB, he's a CB and a FS.
And Elflein is much, MUCH better than useless Kilgore. Elflein would have no trouble beating out that mound of garbage.

Pro Bowl center? Did the Niners sign Nick Mangold? To whom are you referring?
