I think he has a good chance to beat out Johnson as the starter this year. Love this pick. This guy is only scratching the surface of his potential

This!
The Niners already have big CBs with ball skills. He'll probably be like 5th or 6th on the depth chart this year.
Meanwhile, Pat Elflein could have competed for the starting C position.

Witherspoon puts D Johnson on the bench immediately

You have to admit that this guy looks uniquely skilled for a CB not drafted in the first round.
He looks like a bit of a one trick pony, but his "trick" is elite. I don't recall a CB that smothered out his WR this well, at least not recently.
This guy can accelerate in the short space to get his arms on the ball REALLY well. Some guys just throw their arms up and get lucky to alter the path of the ball....and to be fair he did that too, there is a half dozen of those, but I lost count of how many times he accelerated into the gap in his coverage and cleanly put his hand on the ball to swat the ball down. I had to rewatch his tapes over and over and over again, because i was certian he was pulling himself in (pass interference). In actuality he appears to be baiting the QB and using burst and his length. Its very Dion Sandersish.
This guy is intriguing, he does not appear to be a big guy mimicking what he thinks a CB should look like in coverage, he looks a basketball player playing football.
this is easily my favorite pick, i want to watch this guy grown in to the NFL and see if he can duplicate his college game in the pros. He is so different......

I much prefer Witherspoon. I am not convinced our CBs are as great as you seem to think and seriously doubt he will be 5th or 6th on the depth chart. The kid is going to get playing time. With Zuttah and Kilgore the team is fine at C for right now in my opinion.

Wait, so you think it is more likely that Pat Elflein beats out a pro bowl center rather than Witherspoon beating out a back up CB? I just do not see that.

Well soccer does not really use their hands.....
This guy smothers people out with length. He builds this huge area of no throw zone with his arms.

Unless I'm reading this stat line wrong, this quite encouraging to see from our CB pick.

Pro Bowl center? Did the Niners sign Nick Mangold? To whom are you referring?

Jeremy Zuttah was acquired in a trade a few months ago. He was a Pro Bowler last year.

Jeremy Zuttah? It was reported that he was going to be cut if he didn't get traded. For a savings of like 2.4 million. And he got traded for nothing. I think you're putting a meaning on a meaningless pro bowl. Zuttah's not that good.
