Just comparing them to Hooker's, some of the picks I see him make can't be done by anyone else. Someone else questioned his speed, watch the pick in the Clemson play off game, he gets from far hash to make it on the sideline in the end zone. Ridiculous

Another guy to check out is Marcus Williams from Utah...hooker is the best FS in the draft no one is questioning it. Safety just isn't worth the 2nd pick ove end of the day...go look at past drafts.

lol I remember having this argument last season with you about Jalen Ramsey if I recall.

True center fielder right there, damn that's frickin impressive. If Garrett isn't there, I would love for Lynch to take Hooker, the best range I seen in a DB since Ed Reed.

Who was drafted at 24 not 2

And he plays outside DB not safety and I recall you said Buckner wouldn't be there at our pick

first, i wanted to draft Trubisky, then i wanted Solomon Thomas. This video convinced me that we HAVE to draft Malik hooker!! **The argument is made here that the most important position in the defense we are taking from Seattle is the Free Safety position.***

WATCH THIS SCOUTING VID NOW
I don't think a safety has ever went 2 so it would be a reach but not that big when Eric Berry went 5. Unfortunately with Hooker you're not going to get his measureables to see how he stacks up and he's also a 1.5 year starter who missed a lot of tackles.

7 picks with 3 return TD's is not something that's typically taught. He may very well be a special safety prospect and there should be no denying how important Reed and Thomas are/ were to their respected d's.

Shoot, if teams knew what Ed Reed was capable of NFL before the draft, I bet he would've been drafted in the top 3. lol

I don't remember saying that, but I can recall saying a Safety wouldn't be drafted with the #2 or #3 pick or something like that. Sorry, too lazy to go back and look.

What I do remember was saying how Buckner SHOULD be the pick for the 49ers.

Which doesn't diminish his career in any way...would we look at him different, or as a lesser player, if he was drafted at 2? In a redraft he'd be either #1 or #2 to peppers.

You could make the same argument against anyone available at 2. Aaron Donald was drafted 10th and was 12 pounds heavier at the combine than Thomas and way more productive in college.

You don't pick a CB with injury issues that high (Lattimore). You don't pick an undersized DT or DE with mediocre length (Thomas) that high. You don't pick a WR who runs in the 4.6's that high (Mike Williams - an electronic time at the combine likely would have been 4.6+). You definitely don't pick a TE that high (OJ Howard).

The reality is we have to pick someone at 2 if no one wants to trade up. I'm not buying the argument that we can't pick a safety at 2. I'd love it if there was an elite pass rusher or QB available at 2, but we may be choosing between a poor man's Aaron Donald. Eric Berry was the 5th overall pick in 2010 and Hooker may be a better prospect if his healthy checks out. I'm pretty indifferent between Thomas, Hooker, and Lattimore at 2.

People like to argue you don't draft a certain position at a certain draft cause it is too early. I rather like to think of it like when it is said and done, if you had a redraft, how would teams draft then knowing what they know now. If the player is going to be an impact player or multi pro bowler, HOF- does it matter? Give me Thomas, Reed or Lott at number 2. With that said, he fits our scheme, but at the same time, he needs to clean up his angles and tackling. Atlanta did not have that in the SB, if they did, the Pats might not have had a chance.

THIS

I'm so tired of hearing that this position or another was never drafted at number 2 in the draft, blah, blah, blah. You ppl also said that Lynch was a bad hire because no GM without the right experience has ever been hired by an NFL team. We can't live being so afraid of breaking conventional norms.

Malik Hooker...49ers new FS....2017 NFL DRAFT!!!
My top 4
1. Myles Garrett - Still the dream pick
2. (Barely) Malik Hooker - Probably the most suitable pick for me if we can't move from #2.
3. (Barely) Mike Williams - Not worth #2 more than likely, but i'd love to have him even if at #2. Hoping we can move back and get him
4. Solomon Thomas - Great player, versatile on the D line. However, this draft is loaded with edge rushers.. ones more fit for the Leo in the 4-3.

Ramsey isn't a safety so I have no idea why your even bringing it up as a comparison...Gipson was their FS and cyprien was the SS.

As far as people not knowing how good Reed was well that's baloney...dude was a stud FS out of Miami would had 20+ INTs and 9 his last yr in college. OH and that yr peppers was the pick at two and everyone would still pick the pass rusher. Safety isn't worth the 2nd pick in the draft just isn't.

Right so you'd draft the pass rusher NOT the safety at two...I'm not diminishing anything I'm pointing out great college safeties like him didn't even get drafted that early....it's simply not as an important position as everything else
