I don't have any video on him, but in the "Jabril Peppers: Hall monitor" clip on YouTube (it's in the peppers thread), he does a god job of collision in and playing through a pulling guard on his way to a TFL.

FWIW, Shanahan himself is on record saying it can be a big body or a smaller, more active guy. According to him, the alignment is the same, but a SAM who can be blocked by a RB is considered a 2nd level guy (like in a traditional 4-3), while a SAM who demands OL/TE blocks is a 1st level player (like in a 3-4). Basically 3-4 gives you a 5 man front with a big SAM, and 4-3 essentially gives you a 4 man front, even in the same allignment, because SAM is a smaller, faster, more active guy. Both options have advantages.

Here's another video of him on the line causing havoc with the big boys. Last one Adrian I'm out
He was dragging big boy 65 and still got the sack... Nice call WRATH!

I think Ronald Blair would be a good place to start at Sam. Call me crazy but I can see him being in that role.

Same.
I think Blair could shed 20lbs and be a definite edge setter with ability to get lateral and go after qb.

At 285 lbs, he's a little too big to be dropping into coverage. Not really what he does.

Not to go on a tangent, but I love Blair in this scheme. I would not be surprised if he took someone's job. I think he's going to be a really good player for us.
In this 4-3, the SAM is actually the fastest player of the 3 LB'straight.

Michael Morgan 4.44.

So this backs my point even further then..

jesus christ, this forum. smfh.
Morgan is a fill in player because the Seahawks have yet to replace Irvin.

Why would the SAM need to be the fastest LB when the bulk of his responsibilities are flat/curl? You obviously want speed and athleticism at all your positions, but your will and mike have to cover the most space, so they are typically the faster guys. Do you think Bruce Irvin needed to be faster in space than Bobby Wagner and KJ wright? No, because his job was to set the edge, cover the flat/curl and rush the passer. Completely different jobs that require completely different tools.

As I understand the '4-3 under' as opposed to the '4-3 over' is that the SAM is not a 3 down player player. The run stopping SAM is in on base downs and then in the 'nickle' or 'dime' an undersized & faster player is brought in. In the 49ers case, maybe Tartt,Reid or Harold is that player to substitute in. Maybe Blair would fit in the base.
Ideally, you have a guy who does everything so that it provides you personnel package multiplicity.

Bruce Irvin could do everything for Seattle; Vic Beasley is doing the same in Atlanta. They set the edge, cover the flat/curl, and put their hand in the dirt to rush the passer. But it's tough to find a guy to duplicate that. I think there are a few guys in this draft that could do that, most notably Tyus Bowser being one of the better options.

I personally dont know, but have read a few projected comparisons for him and they all lead to Eli Harold.
Comparisons are subjective. Most of them are arbitrary. Watch the tape. Plays nothing like Eli Harold. Bowser plays in space a lot more than Eli did in college, and he doesn't have problems standing up a tackle and setting the edge.

Seems like Z Brown would be a good fit then ?
Z Brown is better suited at will. The will lb will be zipping around all over the place. That's not to say he couldn't play sam, just that his talents are better used, maximized, at will or mike. The comparisons I've seen relating tyus to harold are more based on physical attributes and less on play style and physicality.

Also, just cus Seattle's current sam lb just happens to have the fastest 40 time, does not make him the most fluid, agile, or laterally quick of the lb corps. It also does not mean that he is their ideal SAM lb
