Jerod Evans - QB - VT

Not sure why this kid isn't getting talked about. I like him better than Webb and Peterman as a developmental guy. I'd take him in the 4th rd all day, he has a lot of starting NFL QB traits.
According to one NFL scout, Evans made a "huge mistake" declaring for the NFL Draft instead of returning to school.

"He made a huge mistake coming out. There are so many players who won't gain anything on their draft value by going back to school, but he wasn't one of them. He still has to have reps and learn to play quarterback. Where are his reps coming from now?"

The skinny: I currently have a late draftable grade on Evans, but I completely agree with the sentiment behind the scout's statement. Evans has a decent arm, great size and is a good athlete, but his ball placement, mechanics and overall decision making still have a long way to go. Had he gone back to school, he could have ironed out many of those issues or at least showed improvement to NFL teams. The argument in Evans' favor would be that he will work in an NFL offense now with the NFL coaches, which could help him, but there is really no way for him to simulate game reps anymore.

The age old debate. Do you stay so you perfect your craft, or do you go pro and be coached by the pros while learning an NFL system? I guess he knows whats the better choice for him?

I think most people were surprised that he came out. He isnt just inexperienced but very raw. The issue for him is that in the NFL he won't be getting any meaningful snaps anytime soon.

I don't think people are giving him enough credit for how quickly he picked up the offense in just 1 season at VT.

i've seen enough. looks like every pass is predetermined regardless of how covered the WR is. he doesn't even turn his head to look elsewhere. At least half of those passes are intercepted at the NFL level. DO NOT WANT.

News flash, 49ers interested in all QB's except for the ones that actually are in Pro style systems.

I don't think people are giving him enough don't give a s**t that I can't buy a fully automatic weapon for how quickly he picked up the offense in just 1 season at VT.

Its not saying much when it was a run heavy spread offense that requires the QB to make no adjustments at the line and look to the sidelines constantly.

Even for college spread offenses it is about as basic as it gets.

Its the same offense that Paxton Lynch spent several more years in and still looked woefully unprepared for the NFL.
hehe, let the haters hate. Jerod Evans, come on down!

You mean putting the ball where only his WR could get it like Rodgers does? You would think that a guy who started the whole season throwing to covered WRs would have more than 5 picks and lower than 63% completion pct..

Granted, he doesn't see the field like a vet pro. He does see windows that raw QBs don't see. Day 3 project for a QB guru like Shanahan would be perfect for us in this kind of draft.

No disrespect Neff, but he had 8 picks with only 29 TD's in the type of offense he's in, that's very pedestrian. Granted it's only his first year starting and learning the offense, but I think he's a huge question mark and no better than a camp arm.
