We are talking about spending a top 5 pick and millions of dollars on a guy that doesn't really love the game of football.

You don't know that.

I think this video may be taken out of context, playing college football while attending classes is tough on a teenager. I didn't see anything in the video that said he was struggling with this this past season or that he isn't interested in being drafted and playing pro football.

MOST football players now days are motivated by $, this is why they play the game. Jerry Rice was motivated by his desire to be the best to ever play the game. Today's youth don't see it that way, but that doesn't mean they aren't just as good if not better than those who came before them.

Hooker will be a first round pick, and just like the others he will either kick ass for us or come in and try to kick our ass while playing on another team - simple as that.

A video of a guy saying that when he was 18 he didn't have it all figured out is a flag. It's not a red one.

He had to be coerced to go back by his mommy. That's a giant red flag if I've ever seen one. That's a trait I would attribute to a guy like Anthony Davis.

LOL

"As giant a red flag if I've ever seen one".

Really?

Or kick ass and retire a couple seasons into his career. Then you guys will be saying, "wow, nobody saw that coming."

Malik's mommy had to force him to go back. Poor baby. I guess those Ohio State guys were being big meanies to him.

no safety is worth the 2nd overall pick...an if they were they'd better be flawless. He is a poor tackler and only has one yr worth of experience OH and his injured

He said "it's a giant red flag if he's ever seen one. ". Just making sure we all can see what a giant red flag looks like.

Financially I don't think quitting will be an option for him, like it was for the rich kid Borland that quit on us. Guys like Hooker are cut from a different cloth hence the fact that he finished what he started at Ohio State.

That's fine but our new GM has already said on multiple occasions that it is important to him.

Yeah, again, I know. But every coach and every GM says this ad-nauseum, just as every player can seemingly never stop saying that all they care about is helping the team win.

I'm not saying Lynch doesn't believe this (he very well might), but that he says what EVERY SINGLE OTHER GM says doesn't mean he actually believes it.

My only point is that as a former player I think that he's perhaps LESS LIKELY to believe it than other GMs (save for Elway).

I get that it's a cliche and atypical for players to come out and admit that they never loved football (Curtis Martin, John Riggins, and Darnell Dockett all have, but they're rare), but what most players know IMO is that it's work ethic and dedication that really matter -- it doesn't matter if you're just doing it to make money (as Curtis Martin owned up to), or because you want to avoid having to grow up and be an adult (as Riggins has said is the only thing he really liked about playing football).

I mean, with less than five minutes of googling I could find two hall of famers who owned up to never even liking football. Maybe loving football helps, but it's definitely not a precondition to being successful.

Someone tell Lynch and Shanny not to bother interviewing him. A couple of guys in here watched a 2 min clip - about how a teenager didn't have it all figured out and then asked a parent for advice - and they've seen into his soul -> He still doesn't love the game.

I get it...but that's why Nixon will NOT be the pick at two overall and will drop to the third day most likely....when you have the 2nd overall pick in the draft everything has to be looked ad including passion for the game (something Baalke seemed to forget about).

since 1990 there have been zero safeties drafted at two...I would hope that our GM and form safety himself would be able to find talent at the position this draft is chalk full of good DBs.
Brent Jones on rooming with Steve Young:

"The thing that used to drive me most crazy, Armen, was he never, ever wanted to watch football," said Jones.

"And I'm like, that's the last thing I could -- like, get me a movie!" Young said. "Get me something to take my mind off of it. And the guy would just turn the football off and put on a movie … 'City Slickers,' for a lot of weeks."

"I knew every line, every word," Jones said. "I'm like, 'Dude, are we seriously gonna watch 'City Slickers' again?' He'd go, 'Yup. Yup.'"

.

Exactly what I said. This video is a flag, and something to ask him about. It does not prove he doesn't love the game. It also is just a flag. Not a red flag. I posted a video of what a red flag looks like.

We disagree on drafting a safety at two. If hooker is the 2nd most talented player in the draft, then take him. As someone said in another thread:
