I feel the way you do but not waiting on Armstead but Blair whom I believe will be a better overall player than Armstead. But the old 49ers and Seattle team under Carroll never had enough good pass rushers.

You realize that there will be a heavy DL rotation. You could utilize both Thomas and Armstead, down the road look to move Armstead.

To me the current "starter" in place is Brooks not AA. People are still hung up on AA when they are probably playing different positions when it's all said and done.

With 5 guys on the line who is starting if Thomas is added?

Thomas- 6 or 7T
Buckner- 4T
Mitchell- 1T
AA- 3T
Lynch- LEO

"Better pass up on a largely flawless prospect because people might make fun of us."

Now let's say that 4 years down the road Thomas is an All Pro and Armstead is a backup somewhere, those same people would be like:

"Can't believe stupid Lynch passed up on Thomas."

David Shaw was a college teammates of Lynch's, pretty sure he can tell Lynch all he needs to know.

No question. The logic of these guys would have the Lions passing on Calvin Johnson for Laron Landry

I don't mind taking this position again. Armstead was the 17th pick..mid first round. If he doesn't work out well s**t happens. He wasnt a super high pick, but just another 1st round bust. It was Baalke anyway so f**k it.

So it isn't true?

Sure but I'm sure you'd agree that you can't just say that Thomas isn't a good pass rusher in his own. He's got the athletic ability, the strength and has good hands and hips to get around guys if he was to play there more.

I thought Aldon's best days were ahead of him(prior to him hitting the bottle) and I think the same thing about Thomas. He may not be quite the level of pass rusher but I don't agree that he can't cause havoc from outside just like Aldon did so while Leo may not be an ideal fit it certainly wouldn't shock me to see him play there from time to time and have success.

Thomas is a great pass rusher, the difference being that he is an interior pass rusher. He is not an edge rusher. He's more Aaron Donald than Von Miller

Couldn't Armstead be kicked out to the edge rusher role? He was never that great against the run and has shown some flashes. Fun fact, we also have a certain offensive lineman with experience playing and practising with Thomas.

Or we could say I wish we didn't draft a DE 3 years in a row with premium picks and the only one who made an impact was Deforest.
Solomon Thomas is a beast. lynch will draft this guy unless browns pass on garrett.

No for the multiple reasons that have already been covered.

1. DL is a much more impactful position in the league
2. Calvin Johnson was one of the best picks for that franchise and it was a 4th WR in the top 10 in 5 years, as I mentioned before if the Lions listened to people they would've passed up on CJ for Laron Landry
3. Shanahan & Lynch have 0 attachment to Baalke guys. Armstead hasn't shown enough to think he cannot be replaced

Everything about Thomas screams a quality player. The only way he isn't is if he gets seriously injured.

Armstead has the physical attributes but doesn't play with the same intensity as Thomas. Thomas is getting better and better and plays big in big games. Checks all the boxes.

Athletic talent, intelligence, intangibles...how can he not succeed? His only red flag is questions about where he'll play. I'm sure coaches will be up to the challenge given all his skillsets.
