Solomon Thomas--Stanford

Thomas lined up from the zero to 9 tech for Stanford...we will be in nickle a ton so having a guy that can ability to stop the run plus rush the passer from inside or outside will make him a highly coveted player worth a top pick

I'll add id rather move down cause we need help all over but if not this is my pick

Tony McDonald, Justin Babineaux, Barren Reed. Those are the typical starting 3 techs you see in the 4-3 under. Nothing sexy needed. Once it's established that Buckner is our 5 tech that's going to be kicking inside and out does it make sense to bring in another guy who does the exact same thing? If he could lose 10 pounds and play Leo I like him but I'm not taking that bet at 2. His best position just happens to be the 1 position we got covered. I got to pass.

I really like Solomon Thomas lot if we will grab him then I am good with that. Then draft to T.J Watt for 2nd round then I believe that we will beast defense. Can you image. Yeah baby!!

This isn't the fab 5 we got to address other needs too. I see no reason why a 3 tech is worth the #2 pick even if we can move around a little bit. It would be one thing if Thomas was the ideal Leo/ Sam prospect but he's not. It would be one thing if we could play him in the Bennett role but we already got a stud there. I just don't see the value.

Donald was 6'1 285 at the combine. Even if Thomas gained 12 pounds to hit 6'3 285, he'd still be significantly thinner than Donald. Not to mention Donald has probably put on weight since he entered the league, so you'd be asking Thomas to put on 20+ pounds. That doesn't work for everyone and Thomas wasn't close to as productive in college as Donald.

Thomas is a versatile player and would find a spot on the field on every down -- I'd be happy with picking him at 2, but I don't expect him to be the 2nd coming of Aaron Donald who is one of the 4-5 best defensive players in the league.
Does anyone think that Lynch will pick 2 stanford players with his first 2 picks? I can see him picking up Thomas and then maybe trade up for McCaffery. I would call that a successful draft by itself.

Yes, Thomas is different from Donald. Donald is an every down interior player, very explosive at shooting gaps..

The player comps for Thomas (Michael Bennett, Chris Long) are mostly accurate to me, especially the Bennett comparison. I can see Thomas filling that role in this defense. Strong side end with the ability to rush from the inside on passing downs. A movable chess piece along the d-line to take advantage of certain matchups.

PFF graded Thomas as the top run defender in the nation last year, and also had the 7th highest pass rush grade. Combine that with elite measurables at the combine and his relentless motor, he'd be a slam dunk pick for us. Just perfect for what we need in every way.

If we were to go the Thomas route we'd want to flip Buckner to 3 and play Thomas like Bennett at 5. It's certainly doable I just think we'd have to invest so much into the line because you still need some great edge rushers.

It's possible. Thomas is the player I'm targeting at 2nd overall. McCaffrey would be a nice fit for the offense, but don't see him as a player we need to trade up for. I think Alvin Kamara and Curtis Samuel are two players capable of filling the same role. At least 2 of the 3 should be available at 34th overall if we want to target a RB there.

Kamara is my preferred back in later rounds but im just saying McCaffery because of the Stanford connection

Corner may be my least wanted position. One thing Baalke was good at is getting adequate corners and I think we have them. We just need to give them some help by creating a pass rush.

BINGO!

We have 4 guys on this roster (Brooks, Carradine, Harold, Lynch) that can help as a pass rush by committee approach off the edge. See if the competition brings out the best in them.

And I'm sure that we'll add a pass rusher or two even if we take Thomas.

Aaron is currently 285 according to his profile so don't make that up why can't he put on 10 more lbs if need be? He's got the frame for it...he's just a strong and quicker than aaron plus more athletic.

I don't see it to far off at all to be honest.

I'm really starting to get excited with the prospect of drafting Thomas. If we don't go Qb at #2, Thomas is my pick there.

#1 Trubisky
#2 Thomas
#3 Fournette
#4 Trade down
