Tough to try to cast those two in the same light. Landry has elite traits, but Freeney was SUCH a technician. He's just talking about the bend lol...I agree Freeney was a technician and that's what lead him to have the career he did for as long as he did.

I'm all aboard getting a edge guy who has the quick twitch athletic ability like Landry, sounds like a guy who's gonna work on his craft, and is clean off the field (f**king Aldon Smith).

I was set on Ward or Jackson. But as it seems 2017 regression was due to injury for Landry. He is my number 1 now. Landry Ward Nelson Roquan in that order. No matter what I think we should get Shaqueem with our Late Second. Can you imagine Landy and S. Griffin rushing from both sides. Scary speed.

Yeah, what an idea - draft someone who actually has pass rush moves.

I'm definitely all in on Landry, I don't think Ward or Fitzpatrick showed enough today and although I like Smith, I'd rather spend the 9th pick on a quality edge rusher than ILB.

So, it's been decided - Landry is the consensus pick at #9?

I wouldnt mind Roquan either but this defense will not make the next leap without a serious pass rush. If they elect to draft Landry I would be good with it. Aldon Smith was a part time player his first year and had an amazing impact on the defense.

Very true. But Justin Smith and RayMac were also playing out of their mind. I still think the combo of Smith/Holland (who can also rush on 3rd down ) is greater than Landry/and anyone else.

Landry has the missing ingredient for our D, but do you think the value is there at 9? Add in the "Froster" issues and I'd consider linebacker a weakness. Too bad we couldn't get both without using A LOT of draft capital.

Hmmmmm let me get back to you on that Im not real familiar with Holland but I read he is a round 3-4 type guy. Easier to find traditional LBs than good pass rushers so if Landry can be good/great in that area I think you take him early. But what do we know Lynch may have vastly different thoughts. Will be interesting. I just hope they dont pick some raw guy ala Armstead.

Jeff Holland would be used as a pass rusher. Seems underrated, the same way Carl Lawson was last season.

Only way we're getting a pass rush is through the draft. Two years in a row now the really good (and even "meh") FA Edge Rushers have re-signed or been tagged. They simply don't become available that often. We can improve the Interior OL through FA. We can improve the secondary through FA. We have to improve the pass rush in the draft.

If Chubb is there at 9, we should take him. He won't be. So we should take Landry (elite bend, elite short area quickness, and when healthy, got absurd sack numbers). BPA at a position of need, and at a position that you can't easily get anywhere else.

And yes, he's literally the definition of a Leo in this scheme.

Would Tampa or Chicago take Landry before he gets to us? I don't know what their needs are, but the Bears have to give Trubisky some weapons

Landry got little help on his team, he was a one man wrecking crew and in games I watched teams ran plays away from him.

Bears have to be targeting Nelson or a receiver. They are good on pass rushers. Tampa may go after a pass rusher. I personally think that would be dumb cause they have Noah Spence coming back from injury so addressing their secondary should be concern #1

That will just mean another elite prospect fell to us, most likely Nelson vs Roquan at that point IMO. Probably Roquan since Shanny should be able to find his guard later in the draft.
