5:30 - 16:40 is pretty a sobering reality about where college football is Todd McShay called it borderline crisis. I gotta say, I listened to the whole interview and I have to say that it was a real indictment of the college game, though they didn't say that specifically in the interview. I've been saying for a long time that the college game is really underdeveloping players, in particular the QB, RB, O-line, and WR spots. The college game is just incompatible with the pro game, and it's getting worse. Not a 1st round grade on any of the QB's, at a time when the 49ers need a QB.

I'm at the point where, at certain positions, I feel we should only draft players from pro-style offenses. Plus, I think the league should really find a way for teams to be able to develop - truly develop - players. Tweak the practice squad rules perhaps But something has to be done. The NFL game requires QB's to stand in the pocket, read defenses, and throw accurately. That is a question for all these QB's coming out.

I think they are right to some degree but are also overblowing it

If college football is in crisis in terms of developing QBs then why has the last 20 years produced only a handful of great QBs?

Rodgers, Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Brees..(add in any other semi elite qb you want)

Another point he said that is ringing true is the way players are leaving after their 2nd year and not learning the proper skill set to survive and excel in the NFL because their Agents are pushing them to earn their money now so they can get their 3rd contract before they are 30.

It's either that or possibly go through another headache of a season with Trent Baalke by your side, and in the end may come down to losing your job anyway. Kelly can say he has no interest in returning to the collegiate level all he wants during the season, it's only protocol.

You think Chip leaves this off season? LSU gonna buy out his contract?

who would we replace him with? Who would want to honestly work with Baalke if he stays?

Just a couple questions for ya lol

I just got a feeling that if Baalke stays, and a college program comes at Chip with a decent offer I don't think he turns it down.

Why would LSU need to buy out Kelly's contract, Kelly would probably end up giving money back or work something out with the Yorks. How did NIck Saban up and leave from the NFL to Alabama??

But yah you're right what HC would want to work for SF if Baalke is still in control. I think if Baalke is still in SF if and when Kelly leaves, the next HC is going to want some time of power at his position.

I just assumed there'd be some issue with him just leaving while under contract? I can't really remember what happened with Saban to be honest...I think baalke leaves before chips does.

Ugh not good times being a niner fan that's for sure lol.

It's being way overblown. Mitch tribisky is playing better than any quarterback over the past few years. Jake browning is playing great as well. Luke falk is also playing at a high level. Woodside from Toledo is ballin too. It must be a script they have to follow or they don't know how to watch tape. This year QB class as well as next years is deeper than its being portrayed. Smh

I don't necessarily agree this is a great draft class, but the doom and gloom is laughable. More pressure has been put on QBs to perform great and right away. Top 5 QBs taken in the following years:

1986
Jim Everett, 3rd overall pick, a decent but mediocre career
Chuck Long, 12th pick, bad career
Jake Trudeau, 47th pick, bad career
Bubby Brister, 67th pick, forgettable career
Hugh Millen 71st pick, forgettable career

1991
Dan McGwire, 16th pick, basically no career
Todd Marinovich, 24th pick, do i really need to describe his career?
Brett Favre, 33rd pick, hall of famer
Browning Nagle, 34th pick, basically no career
Scott Zolak, 84th pick, basically no career

1996
Tony Banks, 42nd pick, forgettable career
Bobby Hoying, 85th pick, basically no career
Jeff Lewis, 100th pick, no career
Danny Kanell, 130th pick, forgettable career
Spence Fisher, 203rd pick, doesn't even have a wiki page!

2001
Vick, 1st overall, great talent but never became a great passing QB
Brees, 32nd, HOF
Quincy Carter, 53rd, I enjoyed laughing at him
Marques Tuiasopo, 59th, did he ever play?
Chris Weinke, 106th, bad career

2006
Vince Young, 3rd overall, he likes the syrup
Matt Leinart, 10th overall, bad career
Jay Cutler, 11th overall, I dont know, you decide if he was worth it
Kellen Clemens, forgettable career
Tarvaris Jackson, 64th, bad career

2011
Cam Newton, 1st overall, franchise guy
Jake Locker, 8th overall, to this day I don't understand how he was drafted top 10
Blaine Gabbert, 11th overall, leading the 49ers to Super Bowls....in your Madden game
Christian Ponder, 12th overall, leading the 49rs to its consecutive Super Bowl.....on the next year of your Madden Franchise
Andy Dalton, 35th, decent career but big question mark on him winning a damn playoff game. Still a better career than all the other 5th drafted QBs above

2016
Jared Goff, 1st overall, enjoying the show from the bench, unknown
Carson Wentz, 2nd overall, killing it as a rookie
Paxton Lynch, 26th overall, enjoying the view from the bench, an unknown
Christian Hackenberg, 51st overall, an unknown
Jacoby Brissett 91st overall, looked okay until he got hurt, an unknown

So yeah, I don't see anything in the historical backing up that QBs in the 80's or 90's are so much better than the guys now.

Is Hugh Millan or Scott Zolak really a more impressive prospect than Dalton or Brissett were?

Or was Everett that much better out of college than Wentz? Everett started off pretty ugly

Did they talk about Falk or Mahomes?
