2017 Draft Needs

One pretty big need we have that very few are discussing is a receiving threat out of the backfield.

Chip's offense is predicated on using the RB as a weapon out of the backfield to stretch the defense. This is why there are so few checkdown options in his offense. To really maximize what Chip wants to do, we need a RB with great hands, route-running ability, and physical traits that are a problem for LBs. Basically a Darren Sproles/James White type. The Raiders run a lot of Chip's offense, and they brought in 2 guys that fit this mold(Deandre Washington and Jalen Richard).

One guy I love who checks the boxes is Elijah McGuire. I think he would kill it with Chip. He's one of the RBs with natural receiving skills in the draft.

They could certainly use a solid backup do-it-all RB behind Hyde. I wouldn't be surprises if they took one higher or went after a FA. CBS ranks Elijah as a 5th rounder and they should be able to do that. Good call. What are you doing watching ULL? LOL!

PFF newest big board

I don't see why center isn't listed as one of the team's biggest needs. Kilgore sucks.

Guard is a need; don't like Beadles in Chip's offense. But Kilgore is worse than Beadles.

Can Notre Dame OLG Quentin Nelson play C?

Sometimes I hate this time of year! Such huge disparity in the big boards that it makes you wonder! LOL! CBS has Tankersley rated as the sixth CB while PFF has him as the top CB. Thought it might be PFF relying on senior status but that doesn't seem to be the case. I want a consensus dang it!
We need C, G, T, WR1+2, rb2, QB, OLB, OLB, NT, MLB, MLB, safety.

No problem.

Quarterback grade: Colin Kaepernick, 42.6

Kaepernick benched after unimpressive performance

While the 49ers did not exactly ask Kaepernick to throw all over the field against Chicago, the San Francisco signal-caller still performed below expectations before being replaced by Blaine Gabbert. While he was also victimized by one drop, Kapernick completed only one of his pass attempts.

Top offensive grades:

T Joe Staley, 81.5

TE Garrett Celek, 70.0

RB Carlos Hyde, 66.5

WR Jeremy Kerley, 65.7

RB Shaun Draughn, 63.7

Surrounding cast does not provide a lot of help for quarterbacks

San Francisco's offensive line had a day to forget, as every starter allowed at least two pressures on the 27 plays they had to pass protect. Center Daniel Kilgore allowed the most pressures, as he surrendered two sacks and gave up an additional three quarterback hurries. And while left tackle Joe Staley made up for his pass-blocking struggles in the running game, the other members of the unit did not really excel in that facet of the game, either. In addition, 49ers wide receivers struggled in the snowy weather conditions and dropped two of the six catchable passes going their way.

Top defensive grades:

S Antoine Bethea, 75.3

DI DeForest Buckner, 75.0

LB Gerald Hodges, 72.9

LB Nick Bellore, 70.0

ED Ahmad Brooks, 68.1

49ers defense unable to generate pressure and make key stops

While San Francisco's defense made a good job tackling and missed only one tackle all day, it was not an above-average performance from the unit overall. They were able to generate pressure on only four of Matt Barkley's 20 dropbacks and sacked him only once. In addition, the 49ers struggled in coverage as they failed to record an interception or break up a pass all game. Tramaine Brock and Jimmie Ward struggled in particular, as they combined to give up seven receptions for 133 yards in coverage.

I'm with you on this, center is a huge need, Kilgore is horrible, Hicks was tossing him around like a ragdoll today.

Pat Elflein C/G Ohio St, Dan Feeney G Indiana would be starter options but they would take the 2nd round pick at least

we need an upgrade at every position except DE
I believe that if Chip stays, you develop a young qb (does not need to be 1st pick) but every other pick needs to be best defensive player available. Go ahead and get a veteran wide receiver and lineman in free agency to make the offense better, but this defense is horrible and needs help desperately. If you can come out of this draft with 2-3 defensive studs in the first 3-4 rounds, I would be happy. The only question is if any of us have any confidence that Baalke will make the right choices.
