The wrong way to do it will be to not draft a legit franchise QB when you have the pick to do it.

If you want to build up the O-line and all the offensive weapons first like you have suggested, by the time you finally want to draft a legit QB, we will probably be drafting in the 20s. That means you will have to trade the entire farm away in order to move up to get the franchise QB. Can you imagine how much that will cost you to move up say from the early 20s to say No.2 overall? That will totally destroy any chance of a decent draft from that point on for at least 2 years.

Noone is getting fired. Both John and Kyle have a 6-year deal. Both of them will have a LOT of leeway and you can mark my word. They can miss on a QB and they will be just fine. Jed York has already run out of options, whatever he does he will need to keep Kyle and John for at least the main chunk of their contracts.

You're crazy if you think either Kyle or Lynch will be here for six years if they haven't found a franchise QB. They need to hit on a draft pick or trade. If they don't, they'll both be gone before the end of that six years.

For me the combine isn't about who runs fastest, lifts the most, etc...for QB i think the biggest thing is what's upstairs. We need to be super dilligent about identifying all these QBs we're considering drafting to make sure they have the brains and the heart to be great pros.

There's no question in my mind that physically all 3 of Trubisky, Watson and Kizer have what it takes to play in the NFL at a high level. Tom Brady is a perfect example of the fact that it's not always about the physical tools.

I think out of all the guys Watson has the intangibles but Trubisky isn't far behind. Watson's questions are with accuracy and ability to pick up an offense so I'm curious how he'll throw at the combine. Trub has to show he can handle pro scheme as well.

Hopefully Shanahan and Lynch help us put these guys through the ringer and show us that they can get it done and want it bad. If they do that i'll have no issues with us drafting any of those guys and who gives a hell about the rankings of people who likely never even talked to those kids.

The one thing we can't do though is fall in love with athletic ability and ignore serious red flags with the head and heart...

It doesn't matter what we think, is all about what Kyle likes.

According to all reports, Kyle is after a natural thrower of the ball and a pocket passer type.

And out of all those prospects you have mentioned, correct me if I am wrong, it seems like Trubisky is probably the one that is closest to Kyle's criteria.

You are absolutely crazy to think they will be fired if they miss on a QB in the coming draft.

Not a chance. They will be here for a longgggg time. Even if is not 6 years, you can bet your backside they will be here for at least 4 years.

If Jed York fire them say after a year or two, then the 9ers will be completely fxxked as no one even half decent will come and work for the 9ers. This is Jed's last chance.
You need to throw out where you feel he should be drafted because even if he should be drafted in the 2nd round he's not going to be available there.

What the 9ers brain trust needs and will do is do their homework on all these QBs and ask themselves how confident are you that he can develop into a franchise QB. Because QB is an either or type of position and either the guy has it or doesn't.

You shouldn't be afraid to pull the trigger at #2 for a QB if you feel pretty confident in the guy your picking. HOWEVER and this is what bad teams do, you need to be careful that you're not talking yourself into a guy and glossing over issues that could carry over into his pro career and cause him to bust in the league.

Gabbert to me is a prime example of this as he had everything you could want from a franchise QB except his pocket presence and ability to handle pressure was terrible and that carried over from his college days.

So I'll trust Shanahan and the brain trust to make the proper call because the fact of the matter is they actually get some hands on time with the prospects and they devote way more qualified manpower than any of us here.

I don't think they'd be fired simply for missing on a QB in the 2017 draft. But if they take Trubisky, Watson or whoever... and it's not working after two years... they'll need to cut bait and find another franchise type guy. This is the NFL. They simply won't have 3-4 years to mess around at the QB position. Other positions? Yes. At QB? They need to have a guy on the roster at all times that is the franchise QB or the franchise QB in waiting.

The Niners have to be winners by year 3 of this experiment.

This honeymoon period will wear out real quick if nobody sees any solutions at QB in a year or two.

Let's call it late teens then if that makes you more comfortable, either way the trade up will still kill you.

Is simple, if the QB is a bust then you draft another one or find other options.

In the meantime, by right we should still have some sort of a bridge QB. Someone like Hoyer can still win you ball games especially under Kyle's schemes.

You can't play scared. If Kyle and John feel say Trubisky is the guy, we will just have to pull the trigger. And if they are wrong, they will just have to sort it out.

If you are this scared, may be we should even draft 2 x QBs. Take the top guy we want in the 1st and a guy in the mid round just in case.

2017 NFL mock draft: 4 mocks, 3 quarterbacks

Daniel Jeremiah

Garrett to Browns: "The Browns are in desperate need of a quarterback, but I think Garrett will be too tempting to pass up. He has all-pro talent and will be a perfect fit in Cleveland's new defensive scheme."

Trubisky to 49ers:"The 49ers need to address the quarterback position and Trubisky has a very intriguing skill set. Trading down would also make a lot of sense because of the lack of talent on this roster."

Bucky Brooks

Garrett to Browns: "Gregg Williams' arrival signals a shift to a 4-3 scheme. Browns nab the best DE in the 2017 class to anchor a rebuilt unit."

Trubisky to 49ers: "Despite his inexperience, Trubisky could be the right fit for a potential Kyle Shanahan-led offense."

Lance Zierlein

Garrett to Browns: "Garrett has an all-pro ceiling and combines elite traits with high-end football character. The Browns obviously need a quarterback, but they need great football players first and foremost, and Garrett has a chance to be special."

Trubisky to 49ers: "While he has only one season of high-end production, the tape shows a player with an NFL arm, throwing anticipation and poise. Trubisky might have the toughness to learn on the go as an early starter."

Chad Reuter

Watson to Browns: "Hue Jackson will love Watson's physical attributes and his leadership skills."

Garrett to 49ers: "The 49ers get a difference-making pass rusher."

http://www.ninersnation.com/2017/2/4/14506900/2017-nfl-mock-draft-nfl-com-49ers-browns-pick-mitch-trubisky

99% of the mocks out there have Trubisky going to the 9ers.

Missing on a qb will get you fired, drafting the wrong qb will get you fired, and even drafting the right qb while not being able to properly develop/ surround him will get you fired. In the past 20 years there's really only 2-3 coaches who got significant time with their 1st rounder (Reid, McNabb, Luck, Pagano are the ones I can think of).

You can't consistently win w/o a qb though. I think Shanny is going to have to bite the bullet on Mitch and do his best to argue that we need to sit him a couple years. Hoyer is pretty underrated and if we open our checking books, and can surround him with some good talent I think we can do well enough to buy a little time for Mitch.

OK, last year 3 x QBs went in the 1st and you don't need me to tell you the top selections went at No.1 and No.2 overall. The third QB was already Paxton Lynch which was quite a big drop-off. A guy like Trubisky can easily be the 1st 2 QBs picked and I seriously doubt you will be able to land him even at 10th.

Just look at this coming draft for example, how many teams need QBs? Browns, 9ers, Bears, Jaguars and Jets, these are only the top 10 picking teams. If is anything like that, you will not be able to land a Trubisky type talent.

No, not in this case. Both Kyle and John will have a ton of leeway. Noone is getting fired, mark my word.

If you are so scared about missing on a QB then may be we should even draft 2 x QBs. May be Trubisky in the 1st + another QB from the mid-round just in case.
