Phoenix 49ers 2016 Mock Draft V3.0

^^^ No question about it in my mind. Although it could be tempting to go for the more 'flashy' player, like you, I feel this is the way to go and how you truly rebuild.

I like Conklin and Garnett...but for me, but I'd take Buckner before Butler. Ian Williams probably won't be playing for awhile...and Dial makes the most sense to start at NT. That leaves a huge void at the DE/DT position, which is why I'd grab Buckner to start right away. I also believe Trent Brown will be a terrific RT...just ask Staley. Agree on the need to draft an OT, but maybe not so early.

Kelly's said he's intrigued by Ellington's skillset...so I'd bet he uses him in the slot a lot. Given that, why draft Mitchell. My dark horse WR is Geronimo Allison...6-3, 200 and got separation from DB's in both the Shrine and Senior Bowl games.

I also don't get the Ervin pick...Kelly already has JuJuan Harris for the roles you described. Also don't think Adams is a guy Kelly would want...Prescott or Hogan would seem to be better fits, IMHO.
^butler plays 5 and 0 technique. His versatility along the interior is a big reason why a lot of people on this board are in love with him.

I'd take Tunsil before Conklin, but the odds are against him being available, same with Buckner. For the purposes of this mock draft, Buckner and Jack are off the board already.

One of the nice things about Butler is that you can play him anywhere, NT or DE. Very versatile player, good locker room guy.

At tackle, depending on a 7th rounder to start is risky at best, then you have the issue of what happens if a tackle goes down. With Conklin you have a Day 1 starter, Brown gets the chance to further develop and be the backup, in a few years maybe he moves into the starting lineup with Conklin replacing Staley at LT.

He can be intrigued with Ellington's skillset, but Ellington really hasn't proven anything, least of all the ability to stay healthy. With Mitchell you're getting a guy that is a true 1st round talent, if he works out, he could play in the slot or on the outside for years to come.

I also don't get the Ervin pick...Kelly already has JuJuan Harris for the roles you described.

JuJuan Harris has been cut from like six teams. He has had ball control issues in the past....the reason why Seattle cut him, he isn't the type of player to stop the 49ers from looking elsewhere.

Also don't think Adams is a guy Kelly would want...Prescott or Hogan would seem to be better fits, IMHO.

I don't know how it gets any better than a rookie QB that already knows the offense and has thrived in it.

If Goff and Wentz are gone, its on to next year to look for a long term starter at QB I think.

Prescott, as much as I like him, probably isn't it and there was better talent where he would go. Hogan looks like a career backup. Adams brings the mobility and short area accuracy that Kelly likes but mostly, he just knows the offense and might be able to stick around as a backup. Next year its all about a guy like Deshaun Watson or Luke Falk.

TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline reports that 49ers HC Chip Kelly was "enamored" with Stanford G Joshua Garnett at last week's Pro Day event.
Kelly spent time with Garnett and his agent at the exhibition. Presumably, Garnett would love to get plucked up by the local 49ers. He performed well at his Pro Day, per Pauline, "easily moving about the field and showing good punch." Garnett may be the most powerful interior blocker in this class. Look for him to go in the second round

This would be a great pick up
Phoenix-

Been looking at the OL prospects and one that sticks out like a sore thumb is Le'Raven Clark from Texas Tech. Prototypical Baalke pick. 6'5" / 36 1/8" Arms / 11 7/8" Hands. Seems like some scouts think he just may end up being the best OL down the road. I could definitely see him being the target in a trade back scenario to 12-20. Thoughts?

He's an absolute project. I see him as a 3rd to 4th rounder. Has the measurables and little else. Dude reminds me of Bruce Campbell, another guy that was largely potential and upside but never put it together.

Clark could work out but you'd better plan on investing 2-3 years to get him coached up and ready to start.
Gotta tell you Bro, the only players I like on there is Xavier Howard and Kivon Cartwright (and Tyler Ervin is just too light). The rest aren't impact players, simply decent players. I think we have enough of those types on this roster. Firstly, I'm not a fan of moving down - yet again - to get more picks. It seems like every draft we are in the top 2 or 3 of teams with the most picks yet it hasn't paid out. Even with the retirements with all the picks over the last couple of years we should be awash in talent. Not sold on Vernon Adams, and I hope Baalke is burned in effigy if we draft him. 6-3, 240lbs OLB in a 3-4 scheme? Would be better off getting a 6-4+, 260+ guy with a little strength and speed and convert him this draft. This team needs no sub 6-0, sub 210lbs WR. Matter of fact, we don't need no more sub 6-0 guys on this roster, in this division.

Thats fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Conklin has the potential to be a very good starter at right tackle for years to come. Butler has tremendous upside at DE or NT. Garnett is a great fit for Kelly's inside zone running. I would consider all three of those guys as impact players and likely Day 1 starters.

All three also fit the parameters of what both Baalke and Kelly have prioritized in players. Two of them are players that the 49ers have reportedly have shownnsignificant interest in.

Adams knows the scheme, for a rookie QB that is a huge advantage. He might not turn out to be much but you arent giving up much to draft him. If they cant get Goff or Wentz then you roll with Gabbert, Lewis and Adams and find yourself a QB early next draft or the one after that.

Nicolas is a guy that the 49ers have met with, on the lighter side but you arent drafting him to be a starter but depth, could develop into a decent speed rusher.

As I said at the beginning, you cant address every single need in one draft, it just isnt happening.

What this draft does is square away the OL and DL and adds depth in various areas. Next draft you can really go after a dominant pass rusher like Myles Garrett or a QB like Deshaun Watson.

With all the players you have on your list, I fully believe that you didn't see much of the Baylor (CB) play last year.. he's name is always out there, may have had a great combine or work out.. but the 6 games that I saw Baylor play, he to me, isn't that much of a player.. the fact that Baylor was up big majority of the time made this guy looked like a good CB. .. personally, I would not wanna draft him until the 5th round.. he just looks heavy footed to me..
Conklin's idol?
