Pre-Draft Visits (#7 Prediction)

If we go QB at #7, he could be our guy in the 2nd. He fits the Baalke mold.

That's a Rd 1- 2 combo I'd love to have. Goff is a potential franchise QB, and Calhoun can find a role as 3rd down pass rush specialist right off the bat.

Cosigned.
this place will go full amok if Lawson or another non-QB is the pcik with Goff and Wentz still on the board.
I hope the 49ers can add a shutdown corner to this roster. I would love for this team to have a player like that. CB is one of my favorite positions to watch. Shout out to Dontae Johnson too! Go DJ😎

That pick would be known as "pulling a Baalke."
If we got a qb at seven and managed to trade up and grab Spence/Lawson/ogbah/ dodd then I'll be smiling all the way to week one. But Jack or Buckner would be awesome to.

Just qb and olb are the two most important positions I trust baalke picking a olb. Just not his offensive picks.

I'm just saying there's no reason to dismiss guys like Jack, Buckner, Goff, or Wentz, simply because we haven't heard any reports of them visiting SF. Some will likely visit w/o us knowing, some may visit in the future and the visit isn't scheduled yet, some may not need to visit, because the familiarity/comfort is already there (like w/Reid).

Spot on. In the past, we as fans found out after the fact that we had, in fact, met with players we ended up drafting but didn't have in our original tracker.

Goff will be there for the Local Pro Day. Buckner is already familiar with Kelly and coach Azz. There are (were) 27 visits scheduled already, and we haven't heard of all of them yet.

Buckner could very well end up being our Reid this year.

Added. Guys, I'll be happy to update and combine work here with North so keep me posted. You guys are usually right on this stuff.

Buckner is my pick right now but I could totally see it going this way too.

It's looking more and more like Kap may be sticking around. If this indeed is the case I don't see Baalke going QB in round one. I still would if Goff or Wentz were there, but it's Baalke we are talking about here so it's probably not going to happen. It's funny that you mention Lawson though. I've been starting to get the gut feeling that selecting him at 7 is a definite possibility. I'll throw a dark horse candidate out there as well; Darron Lee.

I think the niners are looking at the possibility that Buckner and Jack are gone at pick seven. They maybe aiming for a QB later and not in the first like Baalke's second draft. That being the case, they are looking at possibly trading back to get an extra pick(s). Thus the people that have come to visit so far.

Lot of holes to fill and many fans on this board are fixated/looking only at one position or bust mentality- Goff/Wentz. QB will be a bust if not surrounded by help on either side of the ball. If we are in rebuild mode, get the players to build around the future QB, then pick the QB. That maybe what Baalke is intending.

Plus why tip your hand early as to who you are all interested in.

Agree. I'm with you in that the 49ers should strongly consider taking Goff if he's there at 7, regardless what happens with Kap. But knowing how Baalke operates, he'd definitely prefer to wait on taking a QB. That's fine by me if we grab a high impact player, but if Goff pans out and becomes a franchise QB for another team it will be a tough pill to swallow.

In regards to Lawson, I like him a lot and wouldn't mind if he's the pick. I don't think he'd be a reach at 7, most have him ranked in the 10-15 range. If he's our guy and can juice up the pass rush, I'm all for it. I don't think he's going to be a dominant edge rusher like Aldon was, but he is a very solid all-round player. Effective against the run and pass, instant 3-down starter.
If jack and Buckner are gone Baalke will go someone we didn't see coming and go with Kevin dodd
Baalke worked out Shaq for 2 hours last Thursday. He's coming for a visit next month.

Interesting fact: Baalke has never drafted an OLB that wasn't 21 years old the day of the draft. Aldon, lynch, Eli and Lemonier were exactly 21. Shaq Lawson is 21.

49ers GM Baalke attends Lawson's private workout
Published: March 28, 2015 at 4:48 p.m.

Not all private workouts are the same for NFL draft prospects, and Shaq Lawson experienced two very different ones in a span of three days last week.

The more challenging one was courtesy of the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, but the Clemson defensive end embraced it both for its difficulty and audience: 49ers general manager Trent Baalke was there, and NFL general managers don't attend private workouts for just anyone.

"When I found out the GM was coming, that told me something about how serious they are about me. He makes the decisions on the team, he's going to draft guys, so with him there, it was more pressure, but I liked that," Lawson said. "He's the main guy, he picks the players."

The 49ers put Lawson through both defensive line drills and linebacker drills, pushing his physical limits for nearly two hours. They wanted to see him from both a three-point stance and a two-point stance, working out not only as a pass rusher but in pass coverage as well.

It's something which Lawson said he was well-prepared.

"I stood up some at Clemson; (defensive ends coach) Marion Hobby had us learn how to play both ways, and we dropped into coverage three or four times a game, at least," Lawson said. "I felt like I was ready for anything."

When it was all over, Lawson said Baalke praised him for his effort and skill.

The easier of the two workouts, both of which were at Clemson, was for the Carolina Panthers. It was relatively brief, and Lawson said he had little trouble understanding the Panthers defense as explained by line coach Eric Washington.

"They pretty much run the defense we ran at Clemson," Lawson said. "I was pretty familiar with all of it."

Lawson has no private workouts scheduled for this week, but if one comes up on short notice, the two contrasting experiences should give him some idea of what to expect.

Lawson said both clubs also worked out fellow Clemson defensive end Kevin Dodd, and linebacker B.J. Goodson.

Carolina will bring Lawson to Charlotte for a formal visit on April 7, two days after he is set to visit the Dallas Cowboys.
