Kevin Hogan-QB-Stanford

The guys footwork and mechanics are a mess. His throwing mechanics make Kaepernick look like tom Brady.
He's the Tim Tebow of the West

Stanford's Kevin Hogan and SJSU's Joe Gray are only QBs among the 67 players at #49ers' local pro day. Cal's Jared Goff is not attending.

Perfect for what we need it seems.

I was watching him last night on 'Game Changers' and his mechanics looked flawless to me and I love how he drove the ball with excellent forward weight.

His windup throwing motion is so slow, I think that will be his undoing.

There isnt a QB with a slower delivery than this guy in the draft. He is smart as all can be but it wont matter if he cant get his throwing motion sorted out. I'd take him as a backup QB that could kill it in the film room.

But Hogan's mechanics — partly his footwork, mainly his elongated delivery — are "a mess" according to one scout, and if he is ever going to become a starter in the NFL, they will have to be cleaned up.

Thanks brother! I wonder if that is a mechanical issue that can be cleaned up like with CK under the Kurt Warner camp. Footwork is the hardest to develop and he certainly seems to have that down along with football IQ (at least in that video and I didn't know him before that). I know Mad had some concerns about his arm strength as well.

with a Slow release you would think he would throw more INts,

one little tid bit: Hogan hasn't thrown multiple INTs a game

Yes because playing on a stacked team in college is the same as playing in the NFL where everyone is bigger, faster and smarter.

This guy didn't throw a lot of INT's in college either with a funky throwing motion.

Hogan's release is a concern because it takes him awhile to deliver the football and unlike a guy like Rivers or Kaepernick, he is unable to drive with real power. If it takes you awhile to deliver the football, you had better be able to gun it in there.

If you could combine what Hogan has got going on upstairs with Kaepernick's physical ability, you'd have a Top 5 QB.

And we saw how well that worked.

Supposedly he has been working on shortening his throwing motion which is something a lot of guys attempt to do but it is rarely ever successful.
Greg Cosell on Kevin Hogan:

"Kevin Hogan will be a 10-year backup, and he'll be a great backup. Now because he's a smart kid and all that, three or four years down the road someone will think he can be a starter and I'm not saying he couldn't be, but he'd never be a high-level starter…He doesn't throw it well enough.

"He needs a lot of work mechanically. His feet are really not very good. He's very jumpy in the pocket. He doesn't have a very good feel for pocket movement — when he moves he's off-balance. A lot of the subtleties of the position, the nuances, he needs a lot of work. Now I've heard great things about the kid — everyone likes him as a player and all that — but he needs a lot of work…

as long as the ball gets there, thats all that matters

might as well just keep Kap then?

As long as the ball gets there on time. When you have a long delivery and limited ability to drive the ball, you will struggle.

As Cosell and others have mentioned, Hogan has the makings of a pretty good NFL backup QB but little else beyond that.
