Coaching Changes -

Let's be real. We'll splurge on one coach, but we are still locked with coaches with Tomsula connections.

New OC: Pep Hamilton (Baalke and Tomsula connection)

New OL/Ast. HC: Joe Philbin (Could be a Bill Callahan type signing)

Personnel Moves -

Trades:

Antonie Bethea and 5th round pick for Raiders 4th round pick. Replaces Woodson.

Colin Kaepernick and 4th round pick (via Raiders) traded for Eagles 3rd and 2017 conditional draft pick.

Tank Carradine for Cordarrelle Patterson - WR/KR - Vikings. Need depth at DE.

Cuts:

Pears - OT; Martin - C; McDonald - TE; Simpson - WR; Miller - FB; Lemonier - DE/LB; Brooks - DE/LB

Resign/Extend:

Davis - OT; Draughn - RB; Reid - S; Williams - NT/DE; Hodges - LB; Dawson - K; Dial - DT/DE; Tiller - G; Celek - TE

Free Agency Signings:

Alex Mack - C - Browns: Anchor for the middle of the line.

Olivier Vernon - DE/LB - Dolphins: One of the better pass rushers in the game, Vernon starts opposite of Lynch with Harold rotating in.

Marvin Jones - WR - Bengals: Cali guy that replaces Boldin on our roster. Smelter, Patton, and Patterson compete for the #3 spot.

Colby Fleener - TE - Colts: Reunited with Hamilton, Fleener is an upgrade to McDonald.

Sammie Lee Hill - NT/DE - Titans: Spells Dial on 3rd downs as Hill specializes in pass rush.

Zach Brown - LB - Titans: Replaces Wilhoite as our swing backup to Hodges and Bowman.

NFL Draft -

R1: Ronnie Stanley - OT/OG - Notre Dame: Replaces Boone at LG and eventually succeeds Staley at LT.

R2: Carson Wentz - QB - NDSU: Has all the tools to be a good NFL QB, but needs time to learn the pro game.

R3: Kyle Murphy - OT/OG - Stanford: Starts at RG but slides to RT if Davis re-retires.

R3: Alex Collins - RB - Arkansas (via Eagles): Insurance policy for Davis and Hyde. Draughn converts to a HB/FB.

R4: Blake Martinez - LB - Stanford: Completes our depth transformation at ILB.

R4: Ian Seau - DE/LB - Nevada (comp): He's got the blood lines and had solid production in 2015. 4th on the depth chart at OLB.

R5: Hunter Sharp - WR - Utah State (via SD): Speedy WR to stretch the field.

R5: Sean Davis - FS - Maryland (comp): Solid safety that provides depth at the position with Bethea's departure.

R6: Cody Core - WR/TE - Ole Miss (via DAL): Bulks up to convert to TE. Could be our next Derek Carrier.

R6: Matt Johnson - QB - Bowling Green (via DEN): PS candidate that replaces Thompson.

R6: Nick Kelly - C - Arizona St (comp): Depth on the PS for our O-Line.

R6: Travis Green - RB - Bowling Green (comp): PS candidate but could compete with Davis and Hayne for a roster spot.

Depth Cart -

QB: Gabbert/Wentz (PS - Johnson)
RB: Hyde/Collins*/Davis/Draughn (RB/FB) (PS - Green)
TE: Fleener*/Celek/Bell/Core* (PS - Anderson)

WR: Smith/Smelter/Patterson (PS - Anderson)
WR: Jones*/Patton/Sharp*

LT: Staley
LG: Stanley*/Thomas
C: Mack*/Kilgore (PS - Kelly)
RG: Murphy*/Tiller
RT: Davis/Brown (PS - Childers)

NT: Williams/Purcell

No to trading Tank, they're placing him in a position he plays comfortable and I want to see how that goes. No to cutting Bruce Miller. No to cutting Martin, really young rookie who's having a bad year, needs chance to develop more... And just no.

Dont get the wisdom of cutting cheap young players. All for cutting pricier vets like Brooks, Pears...etc.
I wouldn't mind getting Patterson from the Vikes , but not at the expense of trading them Tank ...Patterson is a dangerous kick returner, the only negative against him is he never learned how to run routes and figured out how to get open, but he does possess the physical skills to be a dominant offensive weapon , if we had the coaching staff to get production out of him, I'd vote for trading for him, he's still young and should have upside to tap for improvement , he'd make a solid #4 WR and improve our return game, the challenge would be getting him on the field in some base packages and trying to get production out of him as a WR
Love the early emphasis on the offense! Not bad.
Miller? You think this team is bout to run an offense that doesn't involve a FB with Tomsula as the HC? Really not feeling the Pep Hamilton move either. Drafting Wentz is a no no for me. Love the Vernon signing

I would be upset if the 49ers cut Miller and traded Tank.
I want Buckner in the 1st, Jack Conklin in the 2nd. Cut Kap, get Anthony Davis back, Kilgore healthy, then land a couple of big free agents.

Love the Seau pick, nice sleeper
Nice write up

Any OC not named Geep is a positive in my book. Love the Kap trade but, I could see them getting a little more and a big no to trading Tank for Patterson. I'd rather see what Tank can do at OLB vs already knowing that Patterson can't play WR at a NFL level.

I don't see the point in cutting young and cheap players like Martin, McDonald, especially Miller?? Brooks and Pears won't be back though.

I like some of the FA moves but hot damn you went crazy you're looking at re-signing/extending or signing like 15 players that's asking a lot.

IF they could get Vernon and Mack I would consider FA a huge success (plus resigning our own guys). I know we have some holes on the OL but Mack,Kilgore, Staley, Davis, Tiller, Staley, Murphy, Thomas is a bit over kill IMO. We could use some of the cash or draft picks to go towards different positions.

Overall one of the better mock off-seasons thanks man!

I'd love Buckner and Conkiln! I don't think you need to cut Kap he has trade value especially with his year-to-year deal.

I appreciate the effort put into these. I'm happy with the realistic changes to the coaching staff.

But I never understand why so many fans are willing to cut/trade Bethea. The dude can still play, has pro bowl experience and is EASILY the best leader we have in the secondary. Even if you think Tartt has surpassed him on the roster -- his locker room value alone makes him worth his contract.

After an offseason losing so many leaders -- it makes no sense to me that we'd WILLINGLY get rid of Bethea.

This team needs him.

Bethea will have a cap hit of $7 million next year pushing him in the top 10 among safeties...you think locker room value is worth $7 million a year? That could go towards a starter at a position of need (and maybe a new leader as well). If we could get something in return I think it would be a bonus because we'd save almost $6 million just by cutting him.

I think he's a fine player and wouldn't hate to see him on the team for another season, but financially it's doesn't make a ton of sense. I'd rather give Tartt the snaps to be honest ( don't hate McCray either).

On this team? Yes, absolutely. Also, money will NOT be an issue for us this offseason. His affordability is next to no concern. Mind you -- he's obviously much more than a mere locker room guy. The guy can still play. I don't think this franchise is in any position to intentionally lose veterans who provide great leadership such as Bethea. We've had enough loss in that area.

He was actually having a very bad year this year not even close to 2014. I agree losing a vet isn't something we can afford but his play was sub-par and I'd rather start Tartt over him....if he wants to restructure to have a extra year added to his deal (but much more cheaper) I'm fine with that but his play doesn't warren top 10 safety money when like you said this team is in dire needs of good football players.

I'm assuming you want Boldin back as well?

Why can't they bring in vet leaders like they did with Bethea the year before?
