Royce Freeman - Oregon Rb

This guy can be a consolation. Unless one can articulate why Penny is not a better choice than Freeman.

I prefer Penny, but if we miss out on him, Freeman would be nice!

Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon believes that Oregon's Royce Freeman could become the next Alvin Kamara or Kareem Hunt.

That's awfully high praise -- and maybe asking too much -- but Freeman has the talent to certainly be a contributor to an NFL offense. "...at the combine, no potential Day 2 running back posted a better time than Oregon product Royce Freeman (6.90 seconds)," writes Gagnon. "That alone isn't enough to make Freeman a draft dark horse, but it's icing on the cake for an underrated back who rushed for 1,300-plus yards in three of his four seasons in the Pac-12. " Teams will be concerned about his injuries in his junior and senior season, but he could pay big dividends to a team that takes him in round two or three.

I think he's a 3rd/4th rd pick great fit with the jet

3 cone and shuttle times match up with his game performance. Outstanding quickness and change of direction ability for a bigger back.
I'd take him at 74 if Penny is gone. He may not last until our 4th rounder. That's why a trade back from 9 to net an extra 3rd rounder could net us this guy as well.

Trade down to 12, pick up a 3rd, draft Landry or Roquan, and grab Freeman/Penny with the extra 3rd. Then still have the 59, 70, and 74 to grab Ragnow, Nwosu, Obo, Corbett, Gallup, Davis, etc.
Freeman would be a great addition. Curious how Williams and McNichols will pan out but wouldn't avoid drafting another back.

Agreed.
Big back we need for goal line and short yard situations. Speed and quickness. Hands too so it's not a predictable run.

Interviewer asked Kyle about having similar guys on the roster like Breida and Jet. Kyle responded saying that in a perfect world you got your smaller quicker guy and your bigger bruiser. But that's it's not always possible to do it and gotta just try to get the best guys you can. Well this is probably their chance without having to draft one too high

One of them would be gone for sure. Expect 3 or 4 RBs at most on the roster. Jet/Breida/ and whoever we draft (if we do) would be locks.

Call me crazy me but if by some miracle Barkley falls to us I could sleep at night if they trade down to fix the defense, OL and grab a Freeman or Penny.
Freeman is pretty much the perfect compliment to Mckinnon, the fact he's a good receiver out of the backfield too is scary. Doubt the 49ers go RB rounds 1-4 but I'm a big fan of Freeman and Mark Walton.
