Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson - Legit alternative to Jared Goff in 2017?

Some of the weaknesses that he has is the exact same as Kap, and that frightening. I really like him but I am scarred from the one read qbs cause of kap. Maybe he can surprise us but I am hoping we get trubisky with a trade up while getting peppers, fournette, or garrett with our top pick.

Why would you possibly want someone who has 7 games of gametape without a single big stage moment over Watson? That makes no sense.

Trubisky has better fundamentals and is a more accurate overall passer?

I think Watson has far better athleticism and is a better deep passer, he is much more experienced but his accuracy has been inconsistent and he hasnt really taken a step forward like was expected this year.

He's still a very good QB prospect but would I be shocked if Trubisky goes before he does? Not even a little. I think for the 49ers its a good thing that they are both out there. Options never hurt and a lot of teams will be looking for a QB.
You say he hasn't taken a step forward but his production is actually better now than the same point at last year. I agree that he has missed some deep balls that he hit the last two years, but his overall play has continued to be excellent.

Furthermore, you're asking him to take a step forward from a level of play that few college QBs have ever displayed last year while going 4000/1000 and dominating what was a legendary Bama defense in the title game.

How many games has Trubisky played compared to Watson? He has a half-season sample size, so not sure you can say he really has better fundamentals or make any absolute value judgment about him. Fedora runs a system that makes QBs look very good (Marquise Williams ran off 11 wins in a row last year) not that Clemson doesn't or anything. I just wouldn't rush to judgment when it comes to putting a seven game starter up against a very proven commodity in Watson.
if you sit down and astutely watch all of watson's games, you will cringe at how dependent he is on his first read. sit down and count how many of his attempts ONLY go to his first progression. Not just that, but watch how many times he will opt to FORCE a throw to his first read rather than moving his eyes and looking elsewhere. It's very reminiscent of Kaepernick, and something that will have NFL defensive coordinators salivating.

I mean you could have said that about wentz

I can see your point there as far as level of competition, but I would still mention that Wentz had a full junior season where he was impressive in leading the team to another title, and then he had additional production his senior year albeit with injuries.

He's playing lights out football and you can't deny it no matter what. He's playing against solid teams...he's got that offense rolling.

I'm not saying I don't like Watson either he just seems to find ways to win regardless which I think people keep passing up with Watson.

But I just don't agree with dropping him based on not having a signature win...hell the #1 pick in the draft this past yr never even beat a top 25 team in his college career.

I'll add with wentz when he was hurt his backup Easton Stick had that offense rocking and rolling as well.
I just think it is weird people seem to be judging Watson by some super standard that only he himself has approached recently. I get that he set the bar high for himself and deserves the spotlight, but it is a bar that Trubisky frankly isn't sniffing with a limited gametape, yet people are acting like he is outplaying the standard that Watson set as both a freshman and sophomore before this season began.

Watson has faced 5 of the top 30 total defenses in the country in his first 7 games and absolutely obliterated two top 10 defenses already. Trubisky hasn't faced nearly that level of competition yet and hasn't played anyone in the top 20 defensively.

All that said, I am not saying Trubisky doesn't have upside. I just need to see a whole lot more from him to put him in franchise QB territory.

You make a lot of good points with Trubisky..im not close to being sold on him..tho I don't kno much either so I cant really give a full opinion on him..as for Watson i feel the same exact way you do, he is being held to a standard that is almost impossible for him to be at bc of his almost impossible year last year..he is my fav QB in college and i want him to be a niner very bad..i think he will shine in Kellys scheme..and only get better as he goes..Tomorrow will be a big win for him if he pulls it off..i think i read that Clemson has only beat FSU at FSU 1 time..i fully expect Watson to have a great game and prove hes the top QB in this draft even more..
I see a lot of good qualities in him, but Im far from sold on him as a top 3 pick.
Looking very good tonight so far..
