That said -- people need to start getting used to the idea that Wentz will be gone by #13 at the worst. He is as pro-ready as any other QB this draft, shows up in big games and has all the tools to be a top-tier QB. So many QB needy teams. He'll be a top 15 pick for sure.

We have enough cap space to keep Kap and draft a QB in the 1st round and then let them and Gabbert compete for the starting job.

True, but if you already have 2 veteran QBs on the roster, why use a first round pick on a QB? The roster is in dire need of a talent upgrade, so it makes more sense to add a stud OL or a big explosive WR like Treadwell in that scenario, don't you think? My personal take is to cut ties with Kap, start Gabbert and draft Lynch or Wentz at #7.

I think this is true. I really want him here, and I'm a big Goff fan.

This. That is too much money to invest in someone that isn't the clear cut starter. Kap's contract is worth the value of bringing in two good starters or even one great starter, where we know what we are getting. I think the talent is obviously there, but my fear is that he doesn't have the right stuff mentally to be a dominant QB over a sustained period of time. His ability to see what is going on cannot be chalked up to poor O-line play. I'll take Goff or Lynch at 7.

I was looking at FA listings, problem is the ones we would want this year, will be resigned or franchised tags in all likely hood. Also, do you want to get into a bidding war. I also read that there are a lot of teams that will have a lot of cap space, maybe not as much as the niners, but enough to drive up the price. On D, some players may balk at coming to the niners knowing they are going to spending a lot of time on the field. Different story if we were playoff bound.

This draft doesn't seem as talented this year too. I swear, sometimes the niners timing at sucking is really bad. Lots of cap space and the number 7 pick, but availability of talent to pluck or so many other teams with lots of cap space too.....

Keep in mind, we signed Torrey Smith who was a top receiver when Jim Tomsula was our head coach. I don't get always assume the worst for our team, but the best for everyone else. Meaning teams will look at the faults of our team, but not the faults of others and opt to go elsewhere. I think we have just as good a chance as any team at landing any free agent, and there seems to be just as much excitement around this team as there is any other that isn't in the playoffs. Also, although Philly's D has spent a lot of time on the field, did they have anyone on their defense that was of note over these last three seasons outside of Trent Cole? I see a better D as is in San Francisco right now and it should be improved next year. Also, if we are going to assume that the D will spend more time than any other defense in the league because it's a Chip Kelly coached team, then can we also assume that we will have a top 10 offense (which we haven't had since Marrricci)? This means our defense will actually play with some nice leads for once and can be more attacking/aggressive.

That is the thing...perception, but not the fans or writers, but the players and agents. Agents being the key as they have many same clients. Also, we may have more talent on the team, but it maybe a wait and see for the FA, the end game of course is money. Which can be a bad thing as many times these players are never really worth the money.

Draft nugget: was just told if Carson Wentz does well at Senior Bowl he's gone before Dallas gets a shot at him at 4 overall.

It'd be one hell of a meteoric rise if he moved up that far, that fast, wow.

Say what? Wow!
Didn't Matt Miller have us drafting him at 7 in his latest mock?

Yeah. If he does well in the Senior Bowl its not unthinkable that he goes in the Top 10 and once he gets into that range, you could see him go anywhere from Pick 2-10(assuming Titans keep their pick). Right now the QB's are ranked 1. Goff 2. Lynch 3. Wentz, I wouldn't be shocked at all if by draft time we see 1. Wentz, 2. Goff, 3. Cook, 4. Lynch.

Apparently a lot of people think he'll be the 1st QB taken. Qbs are a luxury.

He's got all the tools and a ton of upside, is just in need of some good coaching to improve his mechanics. He's also coming out of an offense that leans closer to "Pro-style" than anything that Lynch or Goff ran.
Gil Brandt ‏@Gil_Brandt Saw Carson Wentz play 2x this season in person. Reminds me of Matt Ryan. Not saying he'll be that in NFL but that was my impression.

Jayson Braddock ‏@JaysonBraddock I understand why Texans fans wanted me to study Carson Wentz first. But, I can't see him making it to the 22nd pick.

Matt Miller ‏@nfldraftscout Jan 14 Carson Wentz (@cj_wentz) vs. Northern Iowa is one of those "put the pen down" games. Has "it".
