It's one thing investing a top-7 pick on a multiple-time character risk (or 100 million dollars), but a pick in the 20's for a talent like Shane Ray despite one blemish would've been a good investment IMO (at least compared to drafting Armstead).
They have the cap space to sign an expensive FA if they are of a mind to do so, and my memory of reading up on Ray indicates possible character issues...but he's yesterdays news and they had Aldon already on board. Further more, they drafted Harold, who may be as good as Ray or better in a short amount of time. Harold has one of the quickest, most explosive take offs from the LOS and is a very high character guy...hard worker and natural leader.
My hope is still for Lynch and Harold to combine with Brooks to make the OLB spot so solid that they can concentrate elsewhere in next year's draft, depending on how things shake out. Armstead could be a bust or he could be the second coming of J Smith...to assume he is either at this point is presumptive.
