Biggest need in 1st Round???

Biggest need in 1st Round???

I believe the wars are won in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

IMO, our Oline has some guys, who will arise to the occasion. Starters Staley, Kilgore, Boone, Davis are solid. Others were drafted last year, went on IR and now have a full season of learning and spot duty. I don't feel, as the Title of the post says, OL is our "Biggest Need in the 1st Rounds."

Our secondary has looked very good for a while because, IMO, the front 7 put so much pressure on opposing QB's.

So, I opt for a DL guy - ESPECIALLY if Justin retires.

Obviously,as you mentioned, Shelton is a lock if there. I really like Goldman, he's big and MORE important to me fast & tough.
Let me approach it from another direction.

ILB: hoping for the return of a fully fit Bowman, this position is reasonable although obviously not what it was. But then, there are other areas where I would prefer the strength to be.

CB: it's possible but with DJ I think the need can be exaggerated. Get the pass rush right and the defensive backfield are going to look golden.

WR: it's possible, but with Smith, Boldin and the two youngsters, is it the priority? I guess Baalke will assess the value when he drafts.

DL: ah! A lot depends on Justin's decision. If he comes back then the need slips slightly but if we have lost both him and RayMac, there's your problem!

Other possibilities you don't mention:

OLB: will Brooks be moved inside? Anyway you can never have too many pass rushers and that's assuming all is well in Aldon-land.

OT: I never want to see JMartin in a 49ers shirt again. Maybe we need to consider, instead of a plug-in, drafting Staley's eventual replacement and bringing him along slowly. If we do he may well need to be a first rounder.

How in the heck can anyone say WR now??

Did you people see what's starting at CB as of right now, DL isn't any better??

I literally came on here to say the same exact thing
We lose a HOF ILB, a young developing potential all-pro ILB, 2 of our starting corners, Justin Smith, and Ray Mac.

We sign Jerome Simpson, and Torrey Smith (not to mention I fully expect to see Patton and Ellington find the field)

And we still have people going offense?
I don't think the question should be what do we need first round. I think the question should be how many rounds does Baalke wait to draft an offensive player?

If Scherff can play at LG in the first years, I'm ok with it. Otherwise, it would be way too much of a luxury pick.

I know right.

I don't think anyone would be mad of a combination of:

1st - Danny Shelton......2nd - Kevin Johnson

or

1st - Marcus Peters.......2nd - Eddie Goldman

or

1st - Trae Waynes......2nd - Stephone Anthony
What is Shelton's projected position in the 34? NT?

Yes. NT.
I'm all for moving to a 4/3 our line is going to be better than our LBs.
Its BPA at whatever position. I don't want to reach based on need, so I dont really have a strait up position I want Baalke to focus on.

In other words: Defence.

NO matter who you draft on the defence, its going to be a position of need.

LB is a need
DL is a need
CB is a need

No matter what way they go, there addressing a weakness. With the D-line you got players like Dorsey, Williams, Dial and Carradine that have some snaps under there belt.

Linebackers you got Wilhoit, Bowman, Moody, Skov and an injured Chase Tomas.

So in my opinion the more pressing need would be CB. We got Brock, Johnson, Cook and Ward with experience then there's a drop off in snap counts.

To sum it up, there's about 2 really good DB in the draft, and theres really good value throughout the next 4 rounds. The Dline position has about 8 really good lineman and good value up to about the 2nd round. LB is the same as the DB's. So i say we go grab one of the really good CB ( Trae Waynes )

Let's apply the BPA rule after we go get our guy.

Agreed, but my intent was not to project the pick, only to assess the biggest need.

Agreed, I view WR as more of a luxury pick bases on talent. Not a need.

Offensive line is also offense. Gimme o-line all day.
