Arik Armstead DE Oregon

There is no way the 49ers make this guy our first round pick.
Please no.

That Lance Zierlein has us taking Armstead and then Coates in the 2nd.

I'd be upset if that's how it fell.
This guy is a 2nd round pick. IF we take him any higher Ill probably donkey punch my tv. With his athleticism he should have dominated in college.

I'm not the biggest fan of Armstead either. His teammate was a much better player than him, in my opinion. I think Armstead might be who we're leaning towards, but I'd much prefer Carl Davis over him.

Why do you think the 49ers are leaning towards Armstead? Please explain that to me.

They tend to go after "all potential" guys using a "future value" grading system. We end up with a lot of projects because we grade some players higher than the obviously more pro-ready or more polished products, because we think they could wind up better in the long run than some other given prospect at the same position.

It's not exactly to an extreme, but they seem to weigh that factor pretty heavily and if the risk is not too much for them, Baalke gambles. I don't like that strategy at all, but it is what it is.

It's my understanding that you have"inside sources" . What are you hearing? My opinion after watching tape is this guy is a major knee injury waiting to happen due to lack of leverage. And the 5.1 40 is is no sign of athleticism...

He doesn't have inside sources. He just puts in a ton of (richly appreciated) work studying and analyzing prospects, and he and OTC have been doing it long enough to apply their study against 49er drafting trends. I hope they're wrong on this one. It's happened before, and I hope it happens again here.

We need immediate starters right away. This guy would barely sniff the field with Dockett, Dorsey, Carradine, TJE, Williams, Dial, and possibly Justin Smith. All initially ahead of him on the depth chart. Oh and not to mention another large athletically gifted prospect who is a about an inch shorter, 10 lbs heavier, and a better 40 time in Okoye.

"Logically" this pick is that this position has been addressed heavily in recent drafts/FA periods that picking DL over and over again would be "Millen-ish".

Our 1st round pick needs to be an initial contributor or insurance or stud on the OL.

I agree this is why even though it is not exciting I hope we either trade back or if we stay put draft one of the two top corners in Peters or Wayne's if we do stay in 15 I and don't go corner position would take D tackle Shelton or one of the two top wide receivers not D GB I would not be bad with a corner in the first receiver in the second dealine Oro line in third hopefully we can do a little bit of movement to acquire a 2nd 3rd round pick
