Sadly until it's known that CK is the long term solution at QB, this teams identity is the defense and using the 1st 2 picks on WRs would be a bad move. Addressing it in the 2nd round is a more prudent move but they gotta sure up the D-line and there's some good ones out there who could have immediate impact.

It's actually why I think they may be a dark horse to kick around the idea of bringing in Suh if Cowboy jets. Prolly won't happen because he'll want top dollar but it'd be similar to what they did to help with the transition from an aging, soon to be retiring BYoung, when they signed JSmith.

Not similar. Suh will be paid top dollar. It would be like us trying to sign JJ Watt if the Texans actually would let him hit the market. I'd rather just address D-line with the first pick. Even if Smith returns, I'd still probably go D-line.

I meant similar as in signing an established pro as opposed to elevating a young, unproven player like Tank Carradine.

I prefer WR, but if Justin bounces, then I do like DL (even Nose Tackle)...

All depends on who falls. If Shelton and K White both fall to 15 I would take Shelton because I think the niners will need a game changing DL more than another good WR. If I were sure that White would beat out Boldin and Johnson to start...but I don't think he will. I think Shelton starts from day one...and if Mangini relies on true NTs more than Fangio did this may be an important addition.

Also depends on what FAs they can pick up. If they signed a true NT FA...

Even if one of them leaves, you certainly don't need to go after two WRs in the first 2 or even first 3 rounds at all. The WR-class is deep again so that we can wait.

Contrary to that, we need some quality at the D-Line immediately, imho, independent of Cowboy's decision. Justin will retire either this or next off-season, Carradine is a question mark, RayMac is gone, the other guys are solid but not more, save for Ian Williams, who is very injury-prone so far.
You seem to underestimate the importance of the trenches...as every year.

If people want to see what a team with top-notch WR's and a weak DL looks like, the Falcons are your ideal blueprint.

With the way this team is currently structured, adding a dominant DL to replace Smith, or even if Smith stays I think you need better overall depth considering that McDonald is gone and TJE is a free agent I believe.

Let's say Smith and TJE both leave.

Now your DL group is Carradine, Dorsey, Dial, Ian Williams returning off a 2nd severe injur, Purcell and that's pretty much it. Does anyone have any real confidence in that group. Even if Smith returns I think you need at least one more real impact guy, whether it be a DE or an NT.

DL it is, then... make it happen Baalke (Shelton or better)
If the top 3 Wrs are gone by pick 15 i think they trade down a couple spots, add a 3rd/4th round pick, and draft DGB around pick #20.

I said that first
I'd rather double up on DL. Shelton in the 1st. Carl Davis in the 2nd.
The Steelers wide-outs are Antonio Brown 6th round 195th pick and Martavis Bryant 4th round 118th pick. They are two of the very best, how do the Steelers always find receivers without picking them early? The 49ers should find someone who knows what to look for at that position. It's obvious going over their selections throughout this regime and others they don't have a clue.

TWO nose tackles in round 1 and 2 respectively? I don't know about that one.
Not a chance they do this!

Shelton as NT. Davis as RDE. Smith LDE

Right now CBS Sports has Shelton, Eddie Goldman, Malcolm Brown and Jordan Phillips listed in their top 32. Odighizuwa, Arik Armstead are rated to go in the second round before our pick(they are rated higher than 47 on their big board)

I understand snatching Shelton at 15, even trading up a little to get him. But outside of Malcolm Brown, no one in that group really sounds like a player you drop the Best Player Available strategy for.

Carl Davis, Mario Edwards Jr., Xavier Cooper and Gabe Wright are ranked lower than 47.

Definitely want a strong D-line, but if Shelton is gone at 15 and they see Malcolm Brown as a NT I say take Kevin White. I'm not saying White starts over Stevie or Anquan. But I would start him over Patton and Ellington. At the end of the year when we wish we would have taken him, we can use hindsight to say "well Anquan was getting up there in age and Stevie has had a balky hamstring for two years so I guess we could have predicted them missing X amount of games combined"

Just saying, D-line is a priority, but there are some scenarios where we can want to take care of it and not have to use the first round pick.

OK....let's go defensive line. Then, would love Lockett or Dorsett later. Or maybe actually see what Ellington and Patton have to offer. They also looked great in college, the last time they really touched the football with any regularity.

Infact the last time a team with a true #1 WR won the Super Bowl was when manning had 2 of them in Reggie White and Marvin Harrison

Reggie White played WR? I thought he was a DE...LOL I know you meant Reggie Wayne sorry couldn't resist though
