Kiper's Mock

I think the draft will boil down to strengths at various rounds. There are a few good DTs who are currently rated in the 1st and 3rd rounds but not in the second. If the drop off is greater than the drop off for WRs 1st (many good guys) to 2nd (where there are a few good WRs) then they will likely go DT in the 1st and WR in the 2nd. As much as I would like to see White on the niners it might be better to wait and take Montgomery or Agholor.

So:
1st: DT Shelton/DT Goldman
2nd: WR Agholor/WR Montgomery
3rd: OG Tre Jackson/OT Tomlinson
or
1st: WR White/WR Parker
2nd: OG Cann/OT Sambrailo
3rd: DT Cooper/DT Davis

Gotta throw a TE prospect in there as well I reckon and OLB.

Also, I have a rule of thumb that if Mel Kiper Jr likes the guy, I immediately take him off my mock
I have looked at very little but Kevin White was the first guy I mocked to us as well.

However I also have a rule of thumb and it's that Baalke will literally draft someone that is completely off of my radar.

Yes, and it may be a process of finding FAs to fix immediate needs and then draft to fill...as Baalke usually does. Not sure TE is a problem if VD comes back healthy. They have VD, McDonald, Carrier and Asante already signed for next year and Celek may resign. As for OLB...it depends on what they do with the D. If they go to a 4/3 they may not need more OLBs. I could see Bowman on the outside along with Willis, Lemonier, Moody...quite a few options.
I would welcome a trade up for DT Leonard Williams. With Justin either not coming back or coming back just for 1 more year, I feel a DT/3/4 end is gonna be a HUGE HUGE need especially with no more Ray Mac. If Leonard falls passed 6 I think Balke needs to trade up maybe give up our 3rd and 4th and then in round 2 #46 Balke can trade down and get back a 3rd.

Would you want him as a RDE/LDE or as a NT?

4-3 DT or 3/4 DE

I haven't seen a mock with Williams going later than 3rd. Some have him at #1. Trying to get him would likely be way too expensive.

Edit: would love to have him though!

I think you're right. But would be nice to get some muscle along the DLINE especially getting thin there with Justin+Raymac likely gone
We cannot switch to a 4-3 - we would have to drastically change our personnel. We have drafted for the 3-4 for several years. Lynch and Smith on the edges, Carradine is going to take Ray Mac's spot. Skuta will be resigned to back up Lynch and Smith. If Justin comes back, amazing. Regardless I think they take Shelton if he's available.

A. Smith, Bowman, P. Willis, Lynch (with Borland and Skuta as primary back ups)

Smith (Dorsey if Smith retires) Shelton, Carradine

If Shelton is nabbed and Smith retires then Dobbs and TJE will compete for his spot, but ultimately I think it's Dorsey's job to lose, with Williams sliding into NT.

Disagree! I think the fact Fangio ran a multiple scheme D would help our players step right into a 4/3.

Run: J Smith/Williams/Dorsey/Lynch

Pass: ASmith/J Smith/Williams/Lynch

Late game pass rush: A Smith/J Smith/Carradine/Lynch (if they don't use the Fangio two DL pass rush)

That leaves Carradine, Dial, Okoye and Ramsey as backups without needing anyone in the draft. I actually think they would need to draft a DL more if they stayed in the 3/4--a true NT...or if J Smith retires, a DT/DE like Carradine.

I think it depends on Tanks weight.

He's 295 now.

he was 270 when he was drafted

We don't need a WR. Our QB needs to learn how to use the weapons he has. Brady has garbage at WR. It still works good for them. Good QB play from the pocket will make an offense run well. You can't hide a QB with the best WR's in the league. At some point they got to play better and make others around them better.

Pretty sure Brady had one of the worst years of his career last year without gringowski. In fact, he did. But this year, with lafell, Edelman and gronkwski. Don't tell me lafell isn't a good reciever, he caught 74 for 953 and 7 tds...not a bad year at all
