Melvin Gordon - RB - Wisconsin

I'm not sure if you have seen him play. He has the fastest first step in all of CFB by a wide margin. He doesn't have elite top end speed, he can be caught from time to time on his long runs, but his burst is otherworldly and allows him to outrun angles consistently. This year he has also really bulked up and his inside running is vastly improved. To the other poster saying he can't break tackles I would suggest you watch some more of his film, he breaks tackles all the time. More often though he just zooms by defenders with angles so he doesn't have to break a lot of tackles. Here are some videos for those interested.

I'll take him in a heartbeat if he's in our range

Gurley tore his ACL on Saturday, I guess that means Gurley to the niners.

I'm all for it ONLY if he somehow falls to the 2nd..which is a big possibility considering how important 1st rounds picks are to teams..so I'm thinking not many will chance taking him on the 1st..id draft him in the 2nd..resign gore 1year contract..cut hunter..gore Hyde gurley to start the season..work gurley in slowly..

You'd cut a proven backup and go with a torn ACL, Hyde (promising, but hasn't shown himself to be the guy yet), and a 32 year old? Hunter has been hurt as well, but we know the guy can play and it's not like he's got some huge contract.

It should be us the way we are built. That's who we really are. We are not a spread it out with 4 WR's and throw 50 times a game team. We tried that. Those are the losses this year.

I agree. Especially if it's a back that can hit a hole fast and get up the field quickly. However considering how we've looked this year, I'm learning more towards a 3-4 DE with our first pick. I put RB at number two and considering the climate of the NFL, you can get first round RB talent in the second. You have your elite guys like Gurley and Gordon, but there are also guys like Ameer Abdullah and Duke Johnson that will be available.

As for the throwing the ball leading to loses, I don't think Kap is the kind of QB yet that will beat you with his arm only, however, I've seen several games where the passing was working and our genius OC went away from it. Or knowing that our O-line only offers 2 seconds of pass protection, we need to use quicker passes to slow down the rush. Not to say that we should be a passing team, I think it should be 50-50 considering the talent.

An Adrian Peterson-level replacement for Gore at the end of the first is probably going to be better than any DE we can get there. Not to mention it would be worth drafting him just so Seattle doesn't get him.

You blew my argument to shreds with that. I can't even deny it. Getting a back like Gordon or even Gurley would be similar to drafting a healthy Marcus Lattimore in 2013.

With that said, knowing that most teams can't afford the risk, do we trade down and try to get either at the top of the 2nd or make another move to pick up an extra 2nd and draft either of the two?
i would love gordon, but unless the 49ers intend to use their 1st round pick on him, i dont expect it to happen.

Gordon Moves Up To Fourth In Pursuit Of Barry Sanders Rushing Record

Wisconsins Melvin Gordon rushed for 151 yards and a touchdown and also had a scoring reception as the Badgers took the Big Ten West Division title with a 34-24 win over Minnesota.

Gordons three-game streak of 200-yard outings ended, but he reached the 150-yard mark for the eighth time this season and the 100-yard mark for the 11th time in 12 games.

He moved his season total to 2,260 rushing yards. Thats the fourth-highest season total in FBS history behind only Oklahoma State's Barry Sanders (2,628 in 1988), UCF's Kevin Smith (2,567 in 2007) and USC's Marcus Allen (2,342 in 1981).

Zero chance at heisman but plus chance to fall in our laps in the second

That would be great. Running backs, even those that are the best at the college level have a hard enough time going in the first. He definitely slides to the second now and I'm hoping he does fall to the bottom of the second.

In his defense, I think Wisconsin ran into a very emotional, hyped up, and well prepared/well coached team in Ohio State that had everything to prove and an outside shot at getting into the CFB. The Badgers got their bells rocked from the opening kick off.
