Danny Shelton-DL-Washington

Malcolm Brown's versatility will be enticing...he's strong enough to play NT and even though he played a 3-technique at Texas, what's to say he couldn't master the 5 on a 3-4 team. A guy who can play effectively inside and out has a lot of value. Eddie Goldman's another possibility. BL is Baalke needs to bolster the DL because of the absence of Ray Mac and the unknown future of Justin Smith. Even if JS comes back, it's likely for one more year per his contract. Neither Carradine nor TJE have proven themselves as starters. Shelton won't be on the board at #15...bank it.

I see them selecting Trae Waynes or a guy like Vic Beasley before taking a 3-4 NT (if that's what Danny's viewed as). Who's more valuable to the Chiefs; Dontari Poe or Justin Houston? Von Miller or Aquib Talib? Dan Williams or Patrick Peterson? Clay Matthews or BJ Raji?

Fully expected to get s**t dumped on for the player comparisons.

Fangio is also the same guy that repeatedly said he preferred smaller, not bigger nose tackles.

I could see Chicago going with Landon Collins at safety, going with a pass rushing OLB, going with a CB....etc If they cut Brandon Marshall and Cooper or White are still on the board, I wouldn't be shocked to see them grab one of those guys.

I agree with the Landon Collins pick, I can totally see Chicago add to Kyle Fuller and the secondary. That would be a pretty solid secondary Ed Donatell will get to work with, i see nothing but good things on defense for Chicago they should be stoked!!!

I'd be happy with either or Danny Shelton or Eddie Goldman. I think there's good value in the later rounds for a CB.
Shelton is my #1 pick for the Niners. If he makes it out of the top ten move up and go after him. The defense will be feared.

I think Chicago will throw a curve pick and select Vic Beasley.

It's all about the Bears on this one. If they don't take him at #7, he may drop to the low teens. I don't think he drops to #15 though. I'm pretty sure Baalke would take him if he did fall to #15. I think he's a perfect 2-gap NT.

Agreed. Chicago is the definite wild card here. If they pass on him, he could slide. I don't see how we could pass him up. He's a game changer, so powerful and disruptive in the middle of the field. He would wreck opposing centers/guards. Slide Dorsey out to LE, Ian Williams can back up Shelton. Hopefully J. Smith returns and that D-line would be down right nasty... especially with all our play making LB's.

Not to mention ... Shelton plays a lot of snaps. He barely comes off the field.
Here's Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock.

Has us taking Brandon Scherff from Iowa. I have said on a few of these forums that we need to get stronger up front. If we want to beat Seattle, the O-Line and D-Line need attention. This is a step towards that. I would be fine with him or Collins from LSU.

We saw what can happen if Anthony Davis and Alex Boone are not playing.. yeah, Jonathan Martin. Enough said!

1st round pick for a backup? No thanks.
What are the chances he falls to us? Honestly i don't think we can pass on him. I'm curious where he's at on our board

This. Unless Scherff is going to replace Staley or Davis within a year or two, it doesnt make any sense to me.

Well if Mangini is looking for his Vince Wilfork, there he is in Danny Shelton or Eddie Goldman. It all starts upfront and all I know is its pretty light there.
I have to say this, a lot of folks around Montlake were surprised at his slow 40. Nevertheless, I still think he will be a quality NT.

I think he'll be a quality NT too, but I don't think he'll be a rare one. Not worth the 15th pick IMO. I'd take Eddie Goldman over him.

A backup?? Really?

What about Iupati leaving? He's going to command $7M a year and we ain't got that kind of cap space. How about we slot Scherff or Collins right in to that LG spot. That's an upgrade over B. Thomas.

I'm not sure why everybody thinks we have a full caliber starting O-line? If Staley or A. Davis gets hurt, we are screwed. We saw what happens when J. Martin and/or Joe Looney come in.
